What a transformation! Timothy Spall displays his new slimline physique as he gets suited and booted for The Journey premiere at Venice Film Festival

He surprised fans with his trim physique earlier when he arrived at the 73rd Venice Film Festival earlier in the day.

And Timothy Spall was looking slimmer than ever as he arrived on the red carpet for his new film The Journey at Sala Grande on Wednesday.

The 59-year-old actor got suited and booted for the occasion, cutting an incredibly dapper figure in a sharp blue suit.

Timothy paired his stylish attire with a funky, abstract patterned tie, injecting a pop of colour and individuality to his look.

He completed the ensemble with a pair of grey suede shoes, looking super stylish on the red carpet.

The Harry Potter favourite, whose weight loss journey has spanned two years, was joined by actor Colm Meaney as they promoted the new flick.

Earlier in the day, Timothy looked better than ever as he enjoyed the Mediterranean sunshine alongside his wife Shane.

The star impressed in a breezy Riviera style outfit, beaming as he touched down in Italy.

Timothy's weight loss began in 2014, when he shed a mass of weight and looked worlds away from the larger-than-life characters he is famed for playing.

Cutting a healthy figure, the veteran star looked perfectly heeled for the weather as he sported a navy blazer with a blue T-shirt and white trousers. 

A jaunty Panama hat was the perfect addition to the look, which was suitably summery in style.

Shane meanwhile went for an equally breezy ensemble in a billowing maxi skirt with a purple top and cardigan with a coordinating hat to her husband.

Timothy has remained relatively tight-lipped about the methods to shedding the pounds, while his actor son Rafe famously weighed 18.5 stone before adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Timothy beat leukemia despite being given just days to live in 1996. He cut down on booze in 2014 after suffering from exhaustion. 

He said at the time: 'I was a glutton. I loved food. I still do. But I didn't have a thing in my mind that told me when to stop eating.

'There's something of a chunky gene in the Spall side of the family. I was always chubby, then I got fat.'

Timothy is at Venice Film Festival to promote The Journey - a forthcoming British drama written by Colin Bateman and directed by Nick Hamm.

The movie follows the true story of political enemies Ian Paisley,played by Timothy, and Martin McGuinness, played by Colm Meaney.

The premiere of the film took place on Wednesday and is an official selection of the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.
