Billionaire Christian Candy is told he CAN'T turn road into a private garden

World-renowned academics, doctors, entrepreneurs and other wealthy residents on Regent's Park's most exclusive streets were furious with Mr Candy (pictured left with his wife Emily) and his plans for a new grand garden and private entrance outside his £200million mega mansion (main picture today). The property developer said his plans (bottom right), which sought to remove an entire road lane, was based on a design by architect John Nash when the famous terrace was completed in 1825. But neighbours called it 'offensive' and a 'misrepresentation of history' and found images from 1828 showing the garden was not there (top right). Council officers had recommended the plans be approved but Camden's planning committee threw them out last night on. Local Kevin Mackenzie said: 'I'm pleased to see that the council recognised that this private garden was never part of Nash's plan.' Mr Candy's developer has said the decision 'defies logic' and they will appeal.

There are reports that the mechanism has now been restarted meaning the remaining passengers will be rescued without the use of helicopters. Reshma Quereshi, 19, the survivor of an acid attack in India, walked the runway during New York Fashion Week on Thursday to send a message of courage and empowerment to other victims of such attacks in her country (left and before the show top right). Quereshi opened the FTL Moda show on Thursday to applause in a long-sleeve, white gown with embroidered appliques by Indian designer Archana Kochhar during her first trip to the United States. The buzz and glamour of the event was a world away from Allahbad, India, where she suffered severe facial burns and lost an eye two years ago after being attacked with sulfuric acid by her estranged brother-in-law and two men (the teen pictured before the attack bottom right). 'This walk was important to me because there are so many girls like me who are survivors of acid attacks, and this will give them courage," Quereshi said in an interview, speaking through a translator. "And it will also go to show people who judge people based on their appearance that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover - you should look at everyone though the same eyes.'

Basset hound Duke can finally see thanks to £1,000 FACELIFT

Owner Kerry Greaves, 40, from Worcestershire, was distraught at the pain Duke (pictured left before the surgery), an American basset hound, was experiencing. She rushed him to the vets where he was diagnosed with entropion, in which the eyelids fold inwards causing infections as the eyelashes rub the cornea. The vets performed a brow lift to relieve some of the heaviness on Duke's face. But, while he was under anaesthetic, the surgeon realised he had too much skin so they gave him a full facelift (right, post-surgery) instead. This included Duke undergoing a wedge resection on his lower eyelids, where a section of skin was removed to tighten the eyelids and make them less droopy.
