'Oh come on!' Nick Viall says he didn't expect to become the next Bachelor during Good Morning America appearance

His coronation last week as the next Bachelor shocked many fans of the hit ABC programme.

And when he discussed his new title on Good Morning America, Nick Viall revealed he had been a bit taken aback himself.

Elaborating on his reaction to getting the offer, he told Michael Strahan and Amy Robach: 'At first, I was like, "Really? Come on."'

Wearing a navy suit that elegantly accented his athletic build, the 10th and 11th series contestant on The Bachelorette rounded off his outfit with buckled dress shoes.

He flashed his trademark lovable grin as he headed down the pavement after leaving ABC Studios Times Square, where the interview was taped.

On Good Morning America, he explained that when the network approached him, 'I was very nervous, but - it took me a couple of days. I told them I had to think about it.'

He added: 'I didn't have a lot of time to think about it, because they didn't ask me too long ago.'

The 35-year-old, who as Strahan pointed out had also appeared on Bachelor In Paradise, admitted that 'It's a huge responsibility, and there's a lot of expectations that come with it, and there's also no guarantees, right?'

Despite the fact that 'you get to meet 25, at least, amazing women,' he noted, 'you just never know if you're gonna connect with them. Maybe you really like someone who doesn't like you back.'

'You'd know a little bit about that,' Robach vamped, to laughter.

His previous quests for love on reality television have availed him naught, though he made it to runner-up during both his stints on The Bachelorette.

Bachelor In Paradise offered a bit more hope. Yet on this week's finale, the Milwaukee native ended his romance with a heartbroken Jen Saviano, even as the three other remaining couples got engaged.
