They say love don't cost a thing, but celebrating it can clearly cost a pretty penny.

Earvin 'Magic' Johnson landed himself the husband-of-the-year award after throwing wife Earlitha 'Cookie' Kelly an anniversary party to remember.

The 57-year-old basketball legend surprised his wife of 25 years with a obviously budgetless-bash in the French Rivera on Wednesday and Thursday.

The couple had been in Europe marking their anniversary when they made a detour from their holiday in Italy to Monaco on Wednesday.

Multi-million dollar price tag: Not only was the two-day event an expensive one, the star treated his wife to a seven-figure new ring 

There Cookie, 57, was blown away to find her husband had flown in a hundred of their closest friends and family to mark their marriage milestone.

Attending the lavish bash was their children Rich Kids Of Beverly Hills star EJ, his sister Elisa and Magic's oldest Andre (with whom he shares with ex Melissa Mitchell).

The star-studded guest list included Tina Knowles, LL Cool J, Steve Harvey, Smokey Robinson, Cedric the Entertainer, Sugar Ray Leonard, Samuel L. Jackson and legendary coach Pat Riley among others.

With all the guests staying abroad multi-million dollar super yachts, the night was kicked off in Monaco where the vessels were anchored next to the venue Yacht Club de Monaco.

Night one was a black tie affair with ball gowns the order of the day.

Fortunately Magic had obviously organised a couture delivery for his wife, with the 57-year-old wowing in a dramatic black gown.

While Magic decided to contrast his beloved wearing a white tuxedo jacket. 

Their fashionable son brought his A game as always, with EJ wearing a slim fit tux with a Western ribbon bow tie with diamond clasp.

For the first night of the celebration, guests were treated to a sit-down dinner at tables which were in the shape of giant Cs for Cookie.

Each table was adorned with pink roses, with guest LL Cool J reporting there was a stunning 15,000 roses in total.

Guests feasted on prawn and arugula salad, rib eye steak, grilled lobster and John Dory fillets, according to the menu posted on Instagram by actress Vanessa Bell Calloway.

Following the white and pink decor theme, guests sipped Moet that was kept cool in an ice filled white baby grand piano.

Blown away by what her husband did, Cookie said on Instagram: 'What an amazing celebration thank you Earvin for an unbelievable event...and to think that was just the first night! I'm so excited to see what you planned tonight!! I love you.'

Magic shared a picture of him and his wife dancing, writing: 'Happy 25th Anniversary to my best friend, my beautiful wife.'

Round two: After resting up from the night before, as soon as the sun went down guest were taken to shore in Saint Tropez for a more casual but still impressive affair

But that was just the start of the lavish bash, with guests awaking the next day to find themselves in Saint Tropez.

After resting up from the night before, as soon as the sun went down guest were taken to shore to party with the giant yachts as a backdrop.

Thursday night's party was a more casual affair but that did not mean that Magic took things down a notch.

While guests ditched their gowns for cocktail dresses, they were entertained by rooming performers covered in mirrors and aerial acrobatic display by Cirque du Soleil.

Obviously the sports legend decided to throw in some more carats for good measure with Entertainment Tonight reporting, in total, the ring - from XIV Karats - was 30-carats.

Aside from the giant emerald cut centre diamond, the ring also had set with trapezoid smaller diamonds on each side and an eternity band of diamonds.

While the actual price of the ring remains a secret, diamonds in that range would cost around $5 million.

No snakes just stars: Actor Samuel L. Jackson also helped the couple mark a quarter of a century together 

Catered for all tastes: There was also a cigar bar as well as a BBQ food station

But Magic was not done there, he also organised for guest Smokey Robinson to serenade them.

But the entertainer decided to go the extra mile and write a song especially for them.

When they weren't dancing, guests munched on a buffet of food including BBQ skewers of meat and fresh seafood.

They were also treated to a giant fireworks display to finish the night with a bang.
