Dressed in his usual brown coat on top of a crisp shirt and black tie, the British actor looked the part as he filmed new comic scenes for the series.

David chatted with the cast and crew inbetween takes, chuckling at one point when his tie was straightened.

Filming a few hit scenes behind the wheel, the comedian then took to the famous shop Arkwright's itself, which his character inherited from his Uncle in the show's original revival.

He was then seen wandering the weird and wonderful shop front in a more formal suit jacket, proving he was incredibly sprightly for his 76 years of age.

Still as gracious as ever, David was later seen signing a lucky young fan's cast as they happened to wander through the location filming.

The 64-year-old was filming for ITV series Benidorm in Spain when he was struck down with a mystery illness, and left 'fighting for his life'.

He was in a clinic in Spain for nearly a month but was airlifted to a hospital in Manchester after his condition stabilised.

Tim was written out of the ninth series of the holiday comedy while he recovered from the undisclosed illness.

However the actor seemed on better form than ever as he reprised his role Gastric, laughing animatedly alongside his co-stars.

The series sees the return of Granville and Gastric, who find themselves advising others on their marriages.

Mrs Featherstone (Stephanie Cole) is also set to return, struggling to get into the Christmas spirit, alongside Kath (Sally Lindsay), Eric (Johnny Vegas) and Brigit Forsyth as Madge.

The spin-off, written by Roy Clarke, has proven a huge hit since its 2014 comeback, being scoring the title of the highest rated comedy series over the last year.

With Open All Hours first revived on Boxing Day 2013, the original Christmas special was the most-watched show of that day, returning to screens after almost 30 years.

Many viewers felt that the show's revival was a fitting tribute to the late star of the series, Ronnie Barker, who died of heart failure in 2005 aged 76.

On returning to one of his most famous roles, David said: 'I can't wait for viewers to see the scrapes Granville gets into this series, almost as much as I can't wait to start filming them.'

The comedy's producer Gareth Edwards added: 'I continue to be bowled over by the incredible audience response to Still Open All Hours, so it's a real pleasure to welcome the series back to BBC One.'
