Whoops! After Bella Hadid fell on her face during the Michael Kors show, we chart all the other awkward trips, slips, and missteps from the NYFW runways
- Bella had the most devastating fall of New York Fashion Week, landing on her hands and knees at Michael Kors
- However, models have also tripped this week at Michael Costello, Dennis Basso, Christian Siriano, and Vera Wang
- Several models had mishaps at Kanye West's chaotic show, with one needing help from an audience member and another taking off her shoes
- They needn't worry too much, though, as Karlie Kloss, Naomi Campbell, and Karen Elson have all fallen on the runway, too
Sky-high heels, slick runways, and a whole lot of pressure: With a recipe like this, it would be nearly impossible to go an entire Fashion Week without at least one model falling on her face.
And this New York Fashion Week was no different, with several skinny fashion-flaunting pros taking tumbles on the catwalk. First at Kanye West's Roosevelt Island presentation — where the heat had models slipping out of their shoes and nearly passing out — and finally at Michael Kors — where Bella Hadid landed on her hands and knees — there have been plenty of mishaps in Manhattan this week.
But while the moment might be a tad humiliating for the models, they can rest assured that they weren't the first, and won't be the last, to end up on the floor — and it certainly doesn't spell the end of a career.

Whoops! Bella Hadid fell while walking the runway at the Michael Kors show this week
A tradition: She joins a long list of models who've stumbled at New York Fashion week
Not alone: While her spill was the most publicized — and perhaps the nastiest — she wasn't the only model to trip this week
Embarrassing! Unfortunately for her, it seems everyone in the audience caught the moment on camera
Graceful: Afterward, she tweeted a joke about being a break dancer
More! Another model stumbled (second from front) at the Michael Costello show
Cringe: She made it down the runway just fine the first time around but tripped during the finale
Most trips and falls are very clearly accidents, with models stumbling over their own four-to-six-inch heels or snagging a dress hemline.
During the finale of the Michael Costello presentation on September 8, when all of the models took to the catwalk at the same time, one slipped out of line as she lost her footing. She crouched and leaned over in her eggplant-colored dress, cringing as she recovered and finished her walk.
More models tripped — but didn't flat-out fall — at Dennis Basso, Christian Siriano, and Vera Wang.
Even Bella Hadid experienced the pain of tripping over her platforms in front of a room full of people, who were quick to catch the moment on their phones.
Still doing fine... Another model, at Vera Wang, lost her footing during the finale
Phew! As she turned at the end of the runway, she nearly tripped, but managed to catch herself
Kanye West's show last week was something of a disaster, with this model unable to walk in her poorly-constructed heels
Yikes! She wobbled very slowly and almost fell several times until an audience member jumped up to help
Fashion compassion: The kind man bucked fashion show norms and escorted her down the rest of the runway
At the Michael Kors show on Wednesday, she slipped up while taking a turn, landing on all fours on the catwalk with an embarrassed expression on her face.
Like a total pro, though, she very quickly picked herself back up, resumed her stoic model look, and kept walking. She even had the grace to crack a joke on Twitter after the incident, writing: 'Guys I'm a professional break dancer now I forgot to tell u [sic].'
But not everything can be chalked up to an unavoidable accident. Some people have blamed the multiple falling models at Kanye's Yeezy Season 4 presentation on the rapper-turned-designer himself, pointing out that he didn't consider how hot it could be on an early September afternoon, and may have made poorly-designed shoes.
First, models cast as extras who were standing in the hot sun in middle of the grass began wilting, with several sitting down to save themselves from passing out.
That heat was rough! Several other extras who had been standing in the sun on the grass nearly passed out
Lost cause: A few gave up and sat down, and were handed water to recover
Close one: Amina Blue also had trouble, wobbling and almost toppling over in her slipping-and-sliding heels
What would Kanye say? Who cares! Rather than fall on her face, the frustrated model finally kicked the shoes off in the middle of the runway
Disaster: The show had several awkward pauses while models struggled in the ill-fitting shoes and burning sun
Forget it! Amina eventually walked barefoot down the runway with the faulty heels in her hand
Then, as the pros took the runway, a few nearly stumbled off it. Cameras caught Amina Blue waddling awkwardly, unable to take proper steps in her heels.
After trudging along for a few steps, Amina wobbled, stopped, kicked off the shoes, and bent over, deciding to carry them as she walked barefoot for the rest of the show.
Another model dressed in all black tripped and stumbled in her seemingly poorly-constructed heels as well, nearly falling with every step until an audience member stood up to help her.
Thankfully, none of these unlucky ladies needs to worry too much that their days walking the catwalk are over.
Nice save! At the Christian Siriano show, where another model fell, total pro Alisar Ailabouni caught a falling earring seamlessly as it slipped from her ear
The supes did it too! Models have a history of tripping and falling on the runway, and even Naomi Campbell experienced a spill at the Vivienne Westwood show in 1993
Down she goes! At a Fendi show in 2010, Karlie Kloss (in purple, back) fell while existing the stage
Uh-oh: Karen Elson fell in her ball gown at the Zac Posen Fall 2008 show
No dwelling: After she was helped up, she shrugged her shoulders and moved on
Some of the biggest names in the industry have had their own runway spills, including Karlie Kloss at Fendi in 2010, Naomi Campbell at Vivienne Westwood in 1993, Karen Elson at Zac Posen in 2008, and Jessica Stam at Chloé in 2005.
And sometimes, models even manage to impress the crowd with their quick, seamless recoveries and ability to avoid potential mishaps.
At Christian Siriano's show on September 10, model Alisar Ailabouni felt one of her dangling statement earrings slipping from her ear. As it finally dropped, she stuck out her hand just in time to catch it, grabbing it out of the air without missing a beat.
