Miley Cyrus Talks 'The Voice,' New Woody Allen Series, Her Red-Carpet Boycott & More on 'Today'
"I don't want people to really talk about what I'm wearing," she says of skipping red carpets. "That's usually why I don't wear too much."
On Friday morning (Sept. 16), Miley Cyrus -- clad in plaid -- spoke with Savannah Guthrie and her Voice co-star Carson Daly on NBC's Today show about her involvement in a variety of new ventures.

She spoke candidly about what it's like to be a coach on the reality competition show, her role in Woody Allen's new Amazon series, and her red-carpet boycott. She was far more reserved when it came to discussing her rings -- two of which were plastic fruit, one of which may or may not be an engagement ring.
Daly points out that coach Blake Shelton is terrified of having Cyrus on as a coach because of her appeal to country artists -- which, up until now, has been a genre he naturally dominated. Cyrus goes on to say the greatest thing about The Voice is that the coaches get to exercise their music knowledge and expertise beyond their own genre.
When asked if she needed convincing to join the show full-time following her stint as a guest coach last season, Cyrus was quick to reply with a firm "no." "I was convinced because, this show, I don't think people at home realize how real this is," she says. "I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't what it... what it looks like is what it is. It's being there for people and encouraging them to be who they are."
The notion of being yourself is one Cyrus is quite familiar with, and also why she has sworn off future red-carpet appearances. She says it's not so much about the color of the carpet and far more about how people -- especially women -- are treated while walking a red carpet. She points out how women are often yelled at by photographers to blow them a kiss and how such appearances largely feed into discussions over what people are wearing -- "I don't want people to really talk about what I'm wearing," she says. "That's usually why I don't wear too much."
