A mother and her son, seven, were found dead in an apartment in upstate New York after her two-year-old was abandoned in a stroller about four miles away. Shane Stevenson, 31, (bottom right) has been charged in the death his girlfriend Raina Voll (top right) and her son Leo Klinger (main left, with Voll's younger son Stephen) , who were discovered in Depew, New York on Thursday night, police said. Voll's younger son Stephen, who was first found behind a church on Thursday afternoon 3.5miles away from the scene of the murders, is now in the custody of his biological father.

The sinkhole, found at the Mosaic plant, opened up beneath a pile of waste material and drained into the Floridian aquifer system, which is the principal source of groundwater for the state. Mosaic discovered the sinkhole at the New Wales plant in late August but did not inform the public for three weeks. The company said there is 'no risk' of contamination to drinking water. The incident comes less than a year after Mosaic settled a $2billion federal lawsuit with the US Environmental Protection Agency.

Analysis of the wing flap of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 suggests the plane plunged into the ocean at high speed in a 'death dive'. The discovery casts doubt on the controlled crash theory, as a pilot would have extended the wing flaps to do so. The Malaysia Airlines flight vanished in March 2014 with 239 people on board.

Mark Zuckerberg's plans to demolish and rebuild four homes neighboring his primary Palo Alto residence have been rejected by an architectural review board. On Thursday, the board decided the Facebook founder's plans will form a giant 'compound' and reduce the city's housing stock, violating zoning codes and ideal land use. Three years ago, the 32-year-old billionaire spent $30million snatching up the four properties in an attempt to maintain his privacy after a local real estate developer announced plans to build a home with direct views into Zuckerberg's bedroom.

Jimmy Fallon wasn't taking any chances as he prepared to meet the Democratic presidential nominee for their interview. After he welcomed Hillary Clinton to the show in front of a cheering crowd, Fallon immediately took precautions. The Tonight Show host pulled out a surgical mask and put it over his face as Clinton laughed hysterically. As Clinton found the joke, which seemed to be a swipe at the controversy over her recent 'medical episode', hilarious, Fallon then pulled out some hand-sanitizer to cleanse his hand. The two then got down to business as they chatted about how hard it can be to be a woman on the campaign trail and how some people say she's too serious. Clinton said it's a 'constant balancing act' as she tries to 'keep the energy and the positive spirit' while also taking seriously important issues. The full episode featuring Clinton airs on Monday, September 19 on NBC.

Katie Lloyd (left image, left) served as her sister's maid of honor and was photographed carrying a family dog Charlie Bear (pictured, left and top and bottom right) up the aisle at the wedding when the pet became too sick to stand. Lloyd's sister Kelly O'Connell (bottom, right), of Denver, Colorado, got Charlie Bear in 2002 when she was 19 years old and living in New York. Charlie had been by O'Connell's side for 15 years when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. When it became clear he was too weak to walk back up the aisle after the wedding ceremony, Lloyd stepped in and the incredible photo was snapped. 'I think everyone backed off so sister could carry her nephew dog,' Lloyd wrote in a comment on Facebook.

Sonja Andersen (upper right) is one of thousands of people who applied to work at the Farmer's Daughter Country Market (bottom right), a bakery and food store located in the tiny village of Whycocomagh on Cape Breton island (the region is pictured left), at the easternmost end of Nova Scotia. The store put out a plea on Facebook urging other Canadian citizens to relocate to the island and take up a new job. The ad offered two acres of land for the new hires to set up their home immediately. Sonja and her 10-year-old daughter Ava began a long road trip on Friday to kick off their new life. Both were in need of a change after Ava suffered through years of bullying at school and Sonja had difficulty making ends meet.

Professional stuntman Eddie Braun successfully jumped over the Snake River Canyon on Friday afternoon in an ode to his boyhood idol, Evel Knievel (the rocket pictured left before takeoff). Braun soared (right) over the southern Idaho canyon in a custom-built rocket dubbed Evel Spirit. It launched off a steep ramp on the edge of the canyon rim just before 4pm as hundreds of onlookers watched. The rocket reached an estimated 400mph before its parachute deployed, allowing Braun and the ship to land safely in fields on the other side of the 1,400 foot-wide canyon (Braun pictured inset embracing Evel Knievel's daughter-in-law Shelli Knievel after completing his flight). Braun has said the rocket was identical to the model Knievel used for his failed canyon attempt on September 8, 1974. Knievel landed at the bottom of the canyon when his parachute prematurely deployed partway across the canyon, but walked away with only minor injuries. The spot where Knievel jumped was 1,600 feet wide.

Officers found the false wall (pictured) at the Center Point halfway house in Oklahoma City, the department of corrections said Friday. Inmates removed drywall to create a pathway outside and concealed it with a false wall, according to officials. Inmates would check in with security then sneak out through the hatch. The department will investigate security measures at the halfway house. Some inmates may see their sentences lengthened because of the escapes, Corrections Director Joe Allbaugh said. Officials also seized 18 cellphones, 87 phone chargers, 39 syringes, marijuana and methamphetamine.

Sobbing families of Levi Shirley, 24, and Jordan MacTaggart, 22, were reunited with their sons early Friday, in Denver. U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter presented them with folded flags - a sign of respect for the men who never joined the U.S. military but felt a need to serve. Their arrival home, in simple, gray caskets, is the end of a long battle for the families since the men were killed fighting in Syria several weeks ago.

Rodney Earl Sanders, 46, (pictured outside court on Friday, left) of Mississippi has confessed to stabbing two nuns to death in their home, according to testimony from an investigator given during a preliminary hearing on Friday. LeCarus Oliver, a Mississippi Bureau of Investigations officer, testified that Sanders' confession to law enforcement officers was recorded on audio the day Sanders was arrested last month. Sanders is charged with capital murder in the slayings of Sisters Margaret Held and Paula Merrill, both 68, (pictured right) who worked as nurse practitioners in one of the poorest counties in the nation. Last month, Merill was laid to rest in Kentucky while Held, her longtime friend and co-worker, was buried in Wisconsin (their caskets pictured inset).

Paige Shoemaker said she was supposed to be a senior at KSU this year, but the pre-med student came under fire after her Snap spread online Thursday. But Shoemaker claims she and friend Sadie Meier, also pictured in the Snapchat, were not wearing blackface and that it was a 'joke' among friends that has been taken 'out of proportion'. School administrators said Thursday that Shoemaker is no longer enrolled at the college and that Meier had not been 'associated' with it in anyway.

Scientists are puzzled by a unique fossil discovery on Santa Rosa Island, California. A well-preserved complete mammoth that is not large enough to be identified as a Columbian mammoth, yet not small to qualify as a pygmy. The team hopes to find answers in its fossilized teeth, which could determine the mammoth's age before death and clarify whether it is a pygmy, Columbian, or less likely, a transitional mammoth species.

Food shortages in Venezuela, South America, has caused a dramatic increase in child malnutrition. In the capital of Caracas alone, the number of cases of severely malnourished children is reported to have at least doubled. According to Dr Ingrid Soto, chief of nutrition at children hospital J. M. de los Ríos, so far this year 65 kids have been admitted, whereas in all of 2015 the total was 35. And across the socialist country seven children under the age of 14 have died from simply not having enough to eat.

If it sells for that price, it will set a new record for most expensive residential property sold in the U.S. The private island estate is owned by the descendants of William Ziegler, a baking powder tycoon who died in 1905. Zieglar purchased the home in 1902 and it has stayed in his family. The main house has six bedrooms, all with views of Long Island Sound. Other guest cottages dot the 63-acre estate, which also has expansive horse training facilities.

Isle of Man TT star and adrenaline junkie Guy Martin is in Utah attempting to set a new two-wheeled world land speed record and beat the current 376.36mph - but it got off to a bad start when his bike toppled over. The 34-year-old from Grimsby has already faced setbacks after the event on his Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner was postponed following safety concerns on Thursday. With 1,000 brake horsepower, the 25.5ft-long vehicle is capable of reaching speeds of around 400mph - the fastest ever built by Triumph.
