It was announced earlier this week that he was set to become a father for the ninth time.

And Mel Gibson was celebrating in style, stepping out in Dublin on Thursday with his pregnant girlfriend Rosalind Ross, 26, for a healthy lunch date.

The 60-year-old actor was beaming with delight as he strolled along beside his partner - who is 34 years his junior - before stopping off at Yogism for a tasty meal.

Mel was casually clad in a baggy blue shirt and jeans, topped off with leather loafers.

He sported a bushy grey beard and attempted to go incognito behind a pair of sunglasses.

Rosalind, who has been dating the Hollywood star for two years, opted for comfort in a printed T-shirt, leggings and a black bomber jacket, scraping her dark hair back in a bun.

The pair were seen tucking into bowls of leafy greens alfresco, before purchasing some luxury chocolates in a boutique.

Mel is in Ireland shooting his new project, The Professor and the Madman, alongside Sean Penn.

The film is adapted from a book by Simon Winchester focusing on the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary, and Gibson will play the professor of the title, Sir James Murray.

Ross, a writer and former equestrian vaulter, is a decade younger than his eldest child.

Gibson has seven children with ex-wife Robyn Moore: Hannah, 36, twin boys Christian and Edward, 34, William, 31, Louis, 28, Milo, 26, and Thomas, 17.

He also has a six-year-old daughter, Lucia, with former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

'Mel and Rose are so excited about the baby,'a friend told People magazine.

'Mel loves being a dad and he and Rose can't wait to be parents together. The last two years have been some of his happiest years he's ever had.'

The Oscar winner and Ross first went public with their romance at this year's Golden Globe Awards in January, when they were spotted leaving an after-show party hand-in-hand.
