Alton Towers owners fined £5MILLION over Smiler crash

Judge Michael Chambers QC called the accident a 'catastrophic failure' and a 'shambles' which could and should have been avoided. Two teenagers - Vicky Balch (centre image) and Leah Washington (left) - each lost a leg in the collision at the Staffordshire theme park in June last year, which 'changed the lives of some of those injured in the most dramatic way', the judge said. The court heard yesterday of a catalogue of failures by the theme park's managers in the build-up to the accident. Nicholas Varney, the chief executive of Merlin Entertainments who run the park, took home a £733,000 pay packet in the same year as the Smiler crash. He also attended court this morning (right).

Yeovil teaching assistant 'caught over fling with schoolgirl when mother found love note'

Hamid Bhatti, 24, allegedly slept with the pupil 14 times after grooming her while on a work placement at her school. He lavished her with love notes and jewellery before having sex with her on his bedroom floor, jurors were told. The girl, who was studying for her GCSEs, had developed a 'crush' on him and thought he was 'good looking' after spotting him in an art lesson, it was said. They crossed paths between lessons at the school in Yeovil, Somerset, and swapped numbers via Facebook after she messaged him from a friend's account. Concerns were raised when the girl was spotted blowing the maths assistant a kiss out of the classroom window - and he caught it and 'threw' it back, it was said. Bhatti admits sleeping with the girl in February 2015 but denies knowing she was underage at the time.

Sam Allardyce faces the axe after being caught in '£400,000 deal' sting: England manager is filmed 'offering advice on bypassing transfer rules - and mocking his predecessor Hodgson by calling him "Woy"'

The England manager's career has been thrown into jeopardy after he was filmed apparently dishing out controversial tips to undercover reporters (right) from the Daily Telegraph who were posing as businessmen from a Far East firm. Last night, as the bombshell claims emerged, new FA chairman Greg Clarke and chief executive Martin Glenn met for crisis talks and hauled Allardyce to a meeting where he was grilled about the allegations. This morning, the 61-year-old - who was hired for the top job just two months ago - was seen leaving his home (left) in Bolton, Greater Manchester, but did not comment. But he has reportedly told friends that he believes England bosses will sack him before next week's World Cup qualifier with Malta. The FA is now investigating the footage and told the Mail they wanted the 'full facts' before making a 'judgement'.

He also said Gary Neville (right) should 'sit down and shut up'

The England boss, whose managerial future is today under scrutiny, cruelly referred to Roy Hodgson as 'Woy' before claiming he would be a bad public speaker as he would 'send them all to sleep'.

Clinton brands Trump a racist AND a sexist: The Donald complains about 'nasty' Hillary after she torments him over Obama 'birther' question, discrimination and treatment of women in explosive first TV debate

Hillary Clinton called Donald Trump a racist and a sexist - to his face - in brutal exchanges during the year's first presidential debate Monday night. Her charges of racism stemmed from an age-old complaint that he had supported 'birther' conspiracies questioning Barack Obama's U.S. birth and therefore his eligibility to be president. And she leveled charge after charge at the Republican in an attempt to frame him as an unrepentant chauvinist, aided by a question from moderator Lester Holt about a one-time comment that Clinton lacked 'the look' to be president. 'This is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs,' Clinton said - a similar challenge to one Trump faced more than a year ago from Fox News Channel anchor Megyn Kelly at the first GOP primary debate. Monday he answered it a second time with a jab at an old entertainment nemesis. 'Somebody who's been very vicious to me, Rosie O'Donnell - I said very tough things to her,' Trump protested, 'and I think everybody would agree that she deserves it, and nobody feels sorry for her.'

The tradition of tattooing young girls from the Chin people of western Burma before marriage died out in the 1960s after the ruling military junta imposed stiff fines. Now few young women have them and these old ladies have become 'walking museums'. Photographer Dmytro Gilitukha said: 'I feel so lucky to have been exposed to such an interesting culture before it dies out.'
