As rumoured, Peter Capaldi will indeed be guest starring in BBC Three’s new Doctor Who spin-off, Class.

Set in contemporary London at Coal Hill Academy, the eight-part YA sci-fi series will premiere on BBC Three online and air on BBC One in October.

The Mirror reports that “Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is to guest star in the opening episode of Class.

An insider is quoted as saying: “What sort of trouble must those kids get themselves in if they need the Doctor to come and bail them out?”

Capaldi previous commented earlier this year: “I’m sure [a cameo] might be fun, yes, but nobody’s asked me yet! To be honest, I haven’t seen any of the scripts… but yes, obviously as a spin-off it’d be nice if the Doctor did show up from time to time.”

Class creator Patrick Ness recently revealed that Class is not “necessarily a ‘young show’” and that it will explore the “real consequences” of the Whoniverse.

The show’s cast is led Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah as four Sixth Formers, with Katherine Kelly (Coronation Street) playing the role of teacher Miss Quill.

Class will be shown in the US on BBC America later this year.

The new season of Doctor Who is currently filming in Cardiff and is set to begin on BBC One next spring.

Here’s everything we know so far about Doctor Who Season 10.

Headline should read “The Mirror claims Peter Capaldi will be appearing in Class” since that’s all we’ve got here. Consider correcting that headline. Since The Mirror is infamous for making things up with regards to Doctor Who rumours we can take this with a pinch of salt until official word is given. I hope it’s true though…

TARDIS was spotted on set a few months ago so seems a safe bet that it’s true 🙂

We can only hope so! Nothing official has been said yet, that’s all I’m saying. Of course if he’s in it and it turns out to be true then I’ll be very pleased but if not? Still pleased because it’s a new show to enjoy. It’s a win-win situation!

Makes sense to have that small connection to the mothership show, then I think ‘Class’ needs to be entirely its own thing so it can establish itself and its characters in that world. Too many references to Who would signal a lack of confidence in the show. From what we have heard to date, there is a lot of excitement about the show and I suspect series 2 will be coming our way same time next year. I am not the target audience but happy to see how this has turned out.
