Taking sides! Melissa Etheridge defends former friend Brad Pitt as she slams Angelina Jolie for 'completely unfounded' allegations

She performed at his previous wedding and looks like this star is not afraid to make a song and dance over this big celebrity divorce either.

Melissa Etheridge was not mincing her words as she explained whether she was team Angelina Jolie or team Brad Pitt.

Speaking to Andy Cohen Sirius XM radio show on Monday, the 55-year-old musician said she was 'heartbroken' for the man she once called a close pal and shot some serious venom in his estranged spouse's direction.

The Bring Me Some Water singer told the Andy Cohen Live host: 'It breaks my heart that anyone would take something as personal as your marriage and your relationship and your rights to your children and do it as purposefully as I see it's being done, because there's a way to be.'

Melissa is no stranger to going head-to-head with a partner over custody as the songstress and ex Tammy Lynn Michaels had a public custody battle in 2010.

'I've gone through family courts. I've been twice around this block, and I know it really well, and I know when there's some forethought to just how mean and just how you're going to put disinformation out there first.'

Andy may also has picked sides as he continue the singer's train of thought for her saying 'Right, and going to TMZ and saying child abuse…'.

Melissa said the accusations that Brad was verbally and physically abusive with his children were 'completely unfounded' and the way it is playing out in public is 'really heartbreaking to see'.

The singer has not, however, been in contact with Brad of late despite the pair being very close.

In fact they were so close that the superstar played at his wedding to first wife Jennifer Aniston.

Now that he is single again, the singer is hoping to reconnect.

'I really hope that he reaches back there are a lot of us that haven't seen him in 10 years... We all lost a friend.'

Melissa was less than subtly suggesting that Angelina may be the cause of her relationship breaking down, and also took a swipe at the Girl Interrupted actress' behavior prior to meeting Brad.

'I was around when Angelina was not doing nice things with Billy Bob [Thorton] to Laura Dern. I went through that on a personal level, and then to know the side of Jennifer and Brad...' she said as Andy interrupted.

'I helped Laura move out of her house with Billy Bob – I like broke into their home to get their stuff out because it was so nasty.' 

Before Angelina married Billy Bob in 2000, he was engaged to wed Laura.

Last week Angelina and Brad agreed to a laundry list of things in order to not have the courts jump in and decide what should happen to the children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, eight.

The actress will have physical custody of the kids until October 20. In the meantime, her estranged spouse has volunteered to have a monitored visit with them as a therapist sits by his side.

After that, the therapist can judge whether he needs further monitoring.

The couple will get counseling, and the entire family - both parents and children - will get therapy together.

The custody agreement comes after accusations that Brad had got into an verbal and physical fight with Maddox on their private jet mid-September.

Brad has denied any abuse accusations.

The DailyMail.com reached out to representatives for both Angelina and Brad in regards to Melisa's statements but have yet to receive any responses.
