'Oooh, that's awkward': One Direction's Niall Horan nervously laughs off bizarre moment fan bluntly claims 'no one really cares' about singer in Canada

He's a member of one of the hottest boy bands around, with critics touting them as a modern-day Beatles.

But One Direction's Niall Horan was inadvertently relegated to a nobody during an odd exchange with a supposed fan on Tuesday, that even radio host Jackie 'O' Henderon admitted was 'awkward.'

During an appearance on the Kyle and Jackie O show, Irish pop star Niall, 23, had a Q&A with fans and it was a throwaway comment made by Canadian student Eve that left the teenage heartthrob red-faced.

'Tell [your fellow students] you're on the line with Niall right now and they will totally lose their minds, go on,' co-host Kyle insisted after Eve said she was in class during the phone chat.

'But I live in Canada, no one really cares...,' she bluntly replied.

After an awkward pause, Niall began to laugh nervously as Kyle rubbed salt in the wound by dragging out the embarrassing moment.

'What do you mean they won't care, freaking Niall's on the phone!' he said with Jackie acknowledging: 'Oooh, that's awkward.'

As the awkwardness reached peak levels, Kyle persisted in pointing out how uncomfortable the situation was.

'Oh sorry buddy... we would chop that out if we weren't live,' he said with Jackie trying her best to save the pop star from further humiliation.
