The decision to cast Emily in the role has raised eyebrows considering her character’s less than glamorous description in the original book.
Even Paula Hawkins, who wrote the bestselling novel, has admitted the actress is ‘too beautiful’ for the role, saying: 'They’ve done their best, I mean to sort of make her look a bit s***, but you know...'
Emily recently explained some of the work involved by the movie's makeup team to alter her naturally beautiful looks.
'I had a full contact lens that covered my whole eye to give that look as though your eyes are bloodshot,' she told the Radio Times.
Blonde beauty: Haley Bennett, 28, wore a beautiful tiered gown with red heels
The actress posed alongside co-star Edgar Ramirez
'There was a pink one and there was the incredibly raging red eye for a drunk look and the hungover, yellow, sallowed sort of eye.'
She also had prosthetic under-eye bags, rosacea colouring and fake varicose veins to transform her into the troubled thirty-something struggling to move on from ex-husband.
The Tate Taylor directed film is out in theatres nationwide on Friday.
Going solo! Justin Theroux, 45 attended the event without his wife Jennifer Aniston
