She's always been something of a style icon.

And Michelle Williams yet again stole the sartorial show as she dazzled in a chic black gown at the screening of Certain Women at The New York Film Festival on Monday.

Proving that more is more, the 36-year-old actress wore an elegant floor length dress, gathered at the waist with a gold clasp, and matching accent at one shoulder.

The former Dawson's Creek star, showed off her shimmering platinum blonde pixie locks, worn with a side-swept fringe falling softly around her face.

The Tony award-winning beauty, who has a 10-year-old daughter named Matilda Rose with late actor Heath Ledger, kept her make-up to the minimum with a nude shade of lip and delicately smokey eyes.

A simple gold bangle echoed the detail of her dress, and platform black heels remained hidden under the sparkling lengths of her dress.

The actress was joined by her co-stars Kristen Stewart and Laura Dern for the premiere of the Kelly Reichardt- directed film, which follows the intersecting lives of three women in small town America.

In the IFC Films release, Williams plays Gina Lewis, a married mother who strives to build a dream home.

The lives of the three strong willed women living in small-town America all intersect, with Kristen Stewart playing a young law student and Laura Dern, of Jurassic Park fame, playing a lawyer forced to contend with office sexism.

Williams is currently filming The Greatest Showman on Earth, a picture about circus impresario P.T. Barnum, with Hugh Jackman in the lead role.

Michelle will play Barnum's wife Charity in the film, which has a tentative release date of Christmas 2017 and a star-studded cast that also includes Zac Efron, Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson.

The film Certain Women is due for US release on October 14.
