Dramatic footage has captured the moment a car crashed on the M6 after traffic ahead ground to a halt - and another vehicle ahead swerved to avoid it.

The dashcam footage shows the car driving along the M6 when the black BMW in front suddenly swerves into the inside lane. 

The BMW clips the back of a grey Volkswagen before narrowly avoiding a white van that had just moved into the middle lane.

Meanwhile, the car with the dashcam continues on, going past two cars in the queue in front. 

It then crashes into a grey Renault Megane, causing both cars to hit the central reservation. 

The driver in front, who does not appear to be injured, is seen getting out of his vehicle.

It is not clear exactly when the crash took place, but the footage has only just emerged online. 

One person was taken to hospital following the accident, according to the uploader of the video.

It is understood that no one else was hurt.
