British Prime Minister Theresa May is set to take aim at the 'liberal elite' who sneer at millions of Britons over immigration and find public patriotism 'distasteful', it can be revealed. In her keynote speech to the Tory party conference in Birmingham today, Mrs May will make a pitch to claim the 'centre ground' of British politics - and drive the 'divisive' Labour Party further into the wilderness. She will also pledge to lead a Government that is unafraid to challenge big business and intervene on behalf of workers on low and middle incomes.

Junior Cox-Noon (pictured), from Brighton, turns heads wherever he goes thanks to his impressive mane which has continued to grow since his birth in July. His hairdresser mother Chelsea Noon (left), 32, says it now takes her two hours to do her weekly shop rather than 40 minutes as she is stopped so often by people who want to speak to Junior. The infant has now been nicknamed 'Baby Bear' thanks to his thick locks that stand on end.

Fourteen-month-old Elijah Davies, from Seacombe, Merseyside, suffers from a rare condition called anophthalmia. Two-year-old girl died 'after swallowing spare battery from television's 3D glasses that got stuck in her throat for a week and corroded'
Unbeknown to her parents, little Francesca Asan (pictured) went into a set of drawers at the family home in Basingstoke and took the 2cm battery out of its packaging, before putting it in her mouth. The toddler then endured seven days of agony as her worried parents made repeated appointments with medics to try and discover why their daughter was so unwell. It was only one week after the incident when the little girl went 'floppy' in her father's arms that she was rushed to hospital and doctors discovered what had happened. Tests showed the small three-volt lithium battery had eroded through her oesophagus into her artery, causing 'catastrophic' bleeding which led to her death. Despite efforts from medics, the little girl had developed severe blood clots in her stomach and died. Francesca suffered from congenital heart abnormalities, which meant her right subclavian artery was displaced. Today, at an inquest into her death attended by her father George (inset), coroner Andrew Bradley recorded a verdict of misadventure and said the case was a 'timely reminder' of the dangers of batteries.
Grandmother is jailed for cruelty towards five children including her granddaughter, seven, who ran into a shop barefoot to beg for something to drink hours before being found dead
Juanila Smikle (left) was convicted last month of cruelty allegations at Nottingham Crown Court. She was arrested after her granddaughter Shanay Walker (right) was found dead. The child died from a brain haemorrhage in July 2014. Prosecutor Richard Pratt QC emphasised that there was no suggestion Smikle was responsible for the death. However, he said inquiries showed the grandmother 'wilfully assaulted and ill-treated' the child for two years before her death. He said the death prompted an inquiry that revealed other children had been treated cruelly by Smikle.
Teenage Albanian migrant who was given asylum in Britain despite being wanted by Interpol is jailed for 18 years after the 'violent and vicious' murder of a young father
Agustin Sula, 18, right, stabbed 21-year-old Mateusz Szleper, left, seven times, piercing his heart and lungs, in a street attack in Hull in revenge for a 'perceived slight' by one of the victim's friends. And sentencing Sula today at Hull Crown Court, Judge Jeremy Richardson QC told him he did not known if he would be ever released and ordered him to serve a minimum of 18 years. The court had heard Sula was already wanted by Interpol after he fled his native Albania despite being convicted of theft and sentenced to six months in prison.

The town is within easy commuting distance of London - taking just over an hour by train - and topped the list for the country's fastest selling house hotspots earlier this year. Dozens pitched up tents (right) outside the housing development in a bid to secure one of the attractive properties.

THE WORLD AT A GLANCE
Cradled in a rescuer's arms, the heartbreaking moment a little girl pulled from the rubble moments too late to save her life in as the agony of Aleppo continues
Clutching her in his arms, this is the heartbreaking moment a rescuer pulled the body of a little girl from rubble (left) following a wave of deadly street battles in Syria. The Syrian civil defence volunteer could be seen carrying the girl from the debris as rescuers tried to save children (right) following air strikes in the rebel-held neighbourhood of Karm Homad in northern Aleppo. Soldiers, backed by Russian troops, have advanced against rebels during the intense street riots, after the US finally gave up on talks aimed at reviving a ceasefire. The UN's human rights chief earlier appealed for action to halt the 'ghastly avalanche of violence' unfolding in Syria 's second city, which has seen some of the most brutal fighting since the civil war broke out in 2011. The Syrian army, loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, announced a major push two weeks ago to capture the rebel-held eastern half of Aleppo, where thousands of civilians are trapped.

Mass grave containing 200 people slaughtered by Spanish dictator Franco is discovered - as scientists take DNA swabs to identify them
Experts believe it could be one of more than 2,000 across the country dating back to the civil war and the brutal dictatorship of General Franco. Three pits containing around 200 bodies were discovered in the city of Valladolid, and work has begun on identifying who the skeletons found buried inside belonged to.
