Let Me Disappoint You! Disaster for Robbie Williams as new single Party Like A Russian limps into the midweek chart at number 53

He has topped the charts throughout his career but Robbie Williams’ latest release looks set to be his biggest flop ever.

The singer’s new single Party Like a Russian has entered the mid-week charts at number 53.

For a performer who is used to scoring top ten hits and number one singles, his latest chart entry will be a huge disappointment to the star and a reflection of the fickle nature of fame.

Robbie has been out of the limelight since 2013, choosing instead to focus on being a doting father to his young children Theodora and Charlton and his marriage to Turkish-American actress Ayda Field.

Party Like A Russian has already caused confusion amongst his fans as the track samples Sergei Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights, which is more commonly known as the theme tune to The Apprentice.

The outlandish and rude lyrics have also been a turn off for many of his followers.

Robbie, 42, will have to wait until Sunday to discover the official weekly ranking for Party Like a Russian.

The song comes from his new album Heavy Entertainment Show, to be released next month, which sees the singer reunited with Guy Chambers, who co-wrote and produced the star’s biggest hits, including Angels and Feel.

The song is also accompanied by a video that shows Robbie adopting the role of a larger than life Russian oligarch, surrounded by a bevvy by female dancers.

Describing the single, he said: ‘Part of the British identity is that we all believe we’re the best at partying, most nations think that of themselves…but there ain’t no party like a Russian Party.

His worst-performing debut single from an album to date previously was Go Gentle from 2013’s Swings Both Ways, which peaked at number 10.

Robbie's new album will be his eleventh as a solo artist since leaving boyband Take That in 1995.

He has sold more than 75million records worldwide and scored seven number one singles in the UK.

And his past success has prompted BRITS organisers to bestow him with a BRITs Icon Award. 

The Let Me Entertain You hitmaker will pick up the prestigious gong and celebrate with a gig at London’s Troxy next month.

He said: 'It’s a real honour for me to be given this award and I can’t wait to play songs from my new album, and from my catalogue, at the Troxy on 7th November.

'The BRIT Awards are very special to me, and I’m humbled to be receiving the 18th of my career next month.' 

Meanwhile: His past successes have prompted BRITS organisers to bestow him with a BRITs Icon Award

Robbie will take fans through his back catalogue of songs for the one-off show and he is promising some surprises for his supporters too.

For those who are unable to get tickets, a 90-minute special will be aired on ITV later in the year and will also feature interviews with Robbie and those close to him who have helped to influence his life and career.

Tickets to the concert will go on sale on Monday via RobbieWilliams.com and the Troxy box office.

Meanwhile, Robbie previously teased he will rejoin his old bandmates in Take That but doesn't think he can make it for the band's 25th anniversary.

He said: 'When is the 25th anniversary? Next year? 2017? I don’t know if I can. I have plans, I have a tour, there’s stuff to be doing. I don’t think it’ll be next year but I think it’ll be at some point.

'I’m a floating member. And I’m really proud of what we do and what we create when I’m in the band. We’ll wait and see when our paths collide but I don’t think it’s going to be next year.'
