Police have started demolishing a farmhouse on the Greek island of Kos in the hope that it might help them solve the mystery surrounding toddler Ben Needham's disappearance. A digger began work today (pictured) and already most of the building has been turned to rubble. Detective Inspector Jon Cousins, from South Yorkshire Police, told reporters the Greek family who own it - who live in Australia - were 'clearly upset' but have agreed for the property to be torn apart in the hope it might provide answers for the Needhams. Ben (inset) vanished while on holiday on the island in July 1991.

Photographer Jacques Nelles has captured life of a poor white community living in the Munsieville township, near Johannesburg, South Africa, in a series of depressing images. Jeanine (left), Irene (top right, with her daughter and grandson) and Chillo (bottom right) all have hard luck stories about their life in the camp. Around 42,000 white South Africans live in poverty, but despite the apartheid era having long gone they tend to live apart from the millions of black South Africans who also live on low or no incomes.

It was virtually impossible to miss the world's largest sailing superyacht as it took to the sea for a test run today (left) - thanks in large part to its three mammoth 300ft masts which stand taller than Big Ben's tower. The 468ft-long vessel, owned by Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko (inset with his wife), was reportedly pulled out of the German Naval Yard in Kiel, north of Hamburg, by a tugboat and it eventually built up a speed of 20 knots. But the superyacht, worth an estimated $450million (£313million), was not able to realise its full potential because the three huge sails have not yet been unveiled. They are expected to be tested at some point in the next week. It was imaginatively named 'Sailing Yacht A' by its owner - who hit the headlines in September when he moored his other £225 million superyacht, 'Motor Yacht A', on the Thames.

Hillary Clinton told the congregation of a majority-black church in Charlotte North Carolina that 'she would not be able to stand it' if her grandchildren 'were scared and worried like many across the country.' During her address to the Little Rock AME Zion Church, Clinton invited on stage nine-year-old Zianna Oliphant, who spoke at a packed City Hall meeting on the issue of gun violence. The youngster told officials: 'We are black people and we shouldn't have to feel like this. We shouldn't have to protest because y'all are treating us wrong. We do this because we need to and have rights.'

The Czech president, Milos Zeman, has called for the hundreds of thousands of economic migrants who have arrived in Europe to be sent to uninhabited Greek islands or even Africa. Mr Zeman said the only solution to the continent's migrant crisis was to deport those not fleeing war and he suggested they could be sent to 'empty parts' of Africa. He claimed 'less than one-third' of the one million arrivals last year were genuine refugees.

Abu Kifah (pictured, inset) was praised as a hero after rescuing the baby (main image) from a suspected Russian warplane attack that left her trapped under rubble for two hours in the northern city of Idleb. His face wet with tears (bottom right), the rescue worker clutched 30-day-old baby Hamida to his chest as she wailed in distress, her yellow baby grow covered in dust from the attack that almost killed her. The volunteer with the Syria Civil Defense team was filmed sobbing helplessly as he rushed the baby girl to hospital in an ambulance. Although the 29-year-old is childless, he said that he felt like, 'I was her father and she was my real daughter.' The footage proved too much for BBC newsreader Kate Silverton (top right), who cried live on air after watching the clip.

The pictures were taken from close range in the South Luangwa River in Zambia as the three 1,500kg animals smashed lumps out of each other to be crowned the king of their herd. As a crash of hippos watched on, as well as some crocodiles, Kanwar Deep Juneja from New Delhi, India, defied the advice of his tour guide and got to the edge of the river to snap away. The temperamental beasts squared up to each other, butting heads and opening their huge jaws wide to try and clamp down on the throats of the others.
