'If you marry a young girl, she's going to want babies': Penny Lancaster says she and Rod Stewart encouraged pal Ronnie Wood, 69, to start family with wife Sally, 38

Having fathered his eighth child at the age of 66, Rod Stewart certainly knows a thing or two about being an older dad.

So it's no surprise that the rocker and his wife Penny Lancaster encouraged friend Ronnie Wood, 69, to start a new family with his 38-year-old wife Sally Humphreys.

In a new interview with Closer magazine, the 45-year-old former model said she and Rod joked with the Rolling Stones guitarist about adding to his brood.

'We said "Look Ronnie, if you're going to marry a young girl, she's going to want to have babies.

'And even if young girls say at the time "No, no I don't mind," then they hit a certain time in their life and it's like "Oh now I do want a baby". Thankfully they did have the babies.'

Ronnie, 69, and Sally, 38, revealed they were expecting twins in December last year and Sally gave birth to twins Gracie Jane and Alice Rose back in May.

The couple started dating in 2012 after being friends for nine years when they met backstage at the Theatre Royal - where she was working at time.

With eight children between the ages of five and 52 by five different women, Rod Stewart certainly knows a thing or two about fatherhood, with Penny having to adapt to being a stepmother.

'It's taken time to blend the family together, but like any good relationship, you have got to build from the roots up and take it slowly - and that's what I've done,' she told the magazine.

Penny and Rod are parents to Alastair, ten, and five-year-old Aiden, while Penny's stepchildren include Kimberly, 37 and Sean, 36 from Rod's marriage to Alana Stewart and Renee, 24, and Liam, 22, by Rod's model-ex Rachel Hunter.

Rod, who will celebrate his tenth wedding anniversary with Penny next year by renewing his vows, has also previously admitted he'd urged Ronnie to have more children.

'I must admit it was me and Penny that was pushing for them to have children - I’m sure Sally [Humphries] wanted them but she just needed a spokesman and she got it in me,' he told ITV's Lorraine. back in March.

'He doesn’t know what’s going to happen to him. I laugh every time I think of it.'

However, Rod says he won't be adding to his own family.

'No no no no. I’ve got a hockey player, I’ve got a musician, I’ve got a ballet dancer, a jazz dancer they are all pursuing wonderful careers in the arts. Extremely proud of them.'
