Were the Kardashian robbers in this mystery Fiat? New video shows car tailing Kim as she left Paris fashion show before £8.5m heist - but none of the regular paparazzi knows who was inside

  • Kim Kardashian had a gun put to her head and was tied up before the gunman dumped her in a marble bath
  • The reality TV star, 35, then had £8.5million worth of jewellery stolen during the raid on her Paris apartment
  • French police suspect the raid may have been carried out by an Eastern European gang with 'inside help'
  • Last night Kardashian was reunited with her rapper husband Kayne West and two children in New York City
  • Identifying suspects through CCTV proved fruitless as there is no footage of the entering, leaving the hote

A new video has emerged showing a mystery car tailing Kim Kardashian as she left a French fashion house just hours before the terrifying £8.5million heist.

The footage shows a grey Fiat 500 trying to constantly cut in front of photographers and wanting to tailgate the car carrying Kim, her husband Kanye and her sister Kourtney after they left a fitting at Givenchy.

According to photographers on motorbikes who were also following the reality TV star, the driver of the car was talking loudly on his phone but looked to be smartly dressed.

Sources in France said one of the suspect men pretended to be a plain-clothed detective to try to get a seat next to her at the exclusive Ferdi restaurant, where she dined on Thursday night, above

At one point, photographers who were angry by his driving tried to confront him as Kim arrived at a restaurant in the French capital.

And when asked who he was, the man apparently replied that he was a police officer.

It is also claimed that he also tried to enter the restaurant where the family were eating but was turned away by security.

Photographers also claim he was spotted outside the apartment that was raided with Kim inside and that he was stood there for two hours, constantly looking inside the gate and clutching his phone.

The footage comes as sources close to the French police investigation have claimed that Kim was tailed by two men in the days leading up to the robbery.

The two men – described as 'Caucasian' and 'North African' – posed as a plain-clothed detective and as a photographer to gain vital 'close surveillance' information for robbery.

One even tried to gain access to the Kardashian's exclusive apartment at Hotel Pourtales ahead of the raid in the early hours of Monday morning, investigators fear.

The men – who spoke with French accents – are now thought to be suspects in the multi-million dollar jewellery heist in which Kim Kardashian begged for her life with a gun at her head.

Meanwhile it has emerged there is no CCTV footage of the robbers breaking into or escaping the hotel which is said to be frequented by A-list celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Madonna and Jay Z.

One man is said to have acted suspiciously, joining the paparazzi 'pack' to gain 'inside' information about the star's movements while the other man apparently posed as a detective to seek access to the star at a restaurant.

'Kim Kardashian was tailed for at least three days before the robbery,' the source close to the French police investigation claimed to MailOnline.

'We know there was one man who pretended to be a photographer who followed the American celebrity on a motorbike to find out her whereabouts. Another man pretended to be a plain-clothed detective to try to get a seat next to her at the exclusive Ferdi restaurant on Thursday night.

'But both men were fakes. The photographer tried to listen in to the conversations by other snappers but he was challenged by the genuine ones.

'And the so-called policeman fled when staff at Ferdi asked to see his credentials.'

Detectives are now hunting the two men who are believed to be part of a 'sophisticated international criminal organisation'.

'We know the licence plate of one of the vehicles used, a Fiat 500, and a photograph of one of the suspects. They both appear to be French and highly professional.

'But this kind of robbery could only have been carried out by a sophisticated international criminal organisation. It would have to be if they had any hope of re-classify the stolen jewels and sell them again.'

Identifying the culprits on CCTV proved fruitless as there was no surveillance video from inside or outside the hotel, sources close to the investigation told TMZ

Police scoured the area looking for footage from nearby shops and banks in a bid to find the armed thieves who made off with millions of pounds worth of jewelery, €1,000 in cash and a mobile phone which is said to have been remotely wiped.

But the only footage available, from a police surveillance camera, was not facing the front of the Hotel Pourtales and the robbers were able to evade it.

We know police had canvassed the area looking for video from nearby businesses but came up dry.

One source questioned whether the Kardashians had had the appropriate level of security due to the high-profile nature of their visit and the huge value of the jewellery they were carrying.

He told MailOnline: 'They [the Kardashians] had three body guards to protect five members of the family staying at two different locations while flaunting their jewellery for everyone to see on the internet. Clearly this wasn't enough.'

Kim felt there was no need for guards to stand watch outside the apartment complex, a source told Page Six.

Her friend said: 'It sounds crazy but understand she’s in her own home, in an apartment with only one entry point which is coded with two keys and keypad.

'If a guard was there, what would have happened differently. Her guard doesn’t carry a gun. They had five guns - most likely more.'

Meanwhile Kim's husband Kanye West is said to be hiring look-a-likes in a bid to to act as decoys and keep his family's location private.

A source told the Daily Mirror: 'The whole family are under round-the-clock protection. He even lent Kim’s mum Kris his own personal security when she sacked hers after an intruder broke into her house while Kim was there.

'A few years ago, he started paying lookalikes of the couple and their son North on a retainer, in case they needed to disguise their location. Now he wants them on the payroll.'

However, Kim has used a look-a-like before as she tried to trick the papparazzi while on holiday in Mexico.

The 35-year-old reportedly used a lookalike friend, sporting a bathing suit similar to one she had worn earlier that week.

She was also spotted sunbathing with Kim's friend and personal assistant Steph Shep.

The new theory emerged after Kim told friends she feared she was going to be raped during the break-in that left her tied up in her luxury Paris apartment as men dressed as police officers stole millions of dollars worth of jewellery.

The 35-year-old reality star begged for her life, screaming that she had two children as five masked men bound her wrists and ankles before leaving her in the bathtub.

The five gunmen who posed as police officers and wore ski masks to protect their identities escaped the luxury apartment in Paris in the early hours of Monday morning on bicycles. Pictured: Kim was reunited with Kanye in New York on Monday

But once they had gone she managed to break free from the restraints and scream for help from her balcony.

She had been asleep in just a robe early Monday when she heard the robbers running up the stairs of her two-story apartment behind La Madeleine church in the city's 8th arrondissement, TMZ reported.

She was halfway through dialling her bodyguard when her phone was snatched out of her hands. Meanwhile, her friend Simone Harouche sprung from her bed downstairs and locked herself in a bathroom, the website reported.

The fashion stylist and long-time friend of the Kardashians called Kim's personal bodyguard Pascal Duvier, who was out at the L'Arc nightclub with Kourtney and Kendall less than two miles away.

Meanwhile Kim managed to squeeze her hands out of the wrist ties by 'wriggling her hands' then ran 'screaming from the balcony', People magazine revealed.

Kim didn't understand the French-speaking robbers amidst the chaotic scene.

But she heard them repeating 'ring, ring' before she realized they were searching for the 20-carat emerald-cut Lorraine Schwartz ring given to her by husband Kanye West, according to TMZ.

She told them where she left the ring, which is worth a reported $4.5million (€4 million /£3.5 million) and last seen on Kim's finger in a Snapchat post earlier that night.

The men, who entered the building after holding the concierge at gunpoint, also stole a jewelry box worth $6.7 million (€6 million/ £5.24 million) before escaping on rented bicycles available throughout the city.

Bodyguard Pascal Duvier missed the robbery as he was with Kim's sister Kourtney and Kendall Jenner two miles away.

The bodyguard, who managed to return to the apartment two minutes after the men escaped, was blasted for allowing the shocking security lapse while former guard Steve Stanulis, who suggested it was an inside job.

The source added: 'When Kourtney went out to the nightclub on Sunday night Pascal had to go with her – she was in the most danger.

'Kim was at a five star hotel which in any normal circumstances should be a safe environment.'

However the hotel doorman was left with few options when he was confronted by the gang posing as policemen and armed with hand-guns.

'There really wasn't anything the concierge could do when the guns came out,' the source told MailOnline.

'The body guards never would have let me the men upstairs if they had been there.

'They would have stopped the robbers from getting to Kim and putting a gun to her head or died trying. That is what they are trained to do.

'But this was a hotel night porter. There was nothing he could do. He had to let the robbers into Kim's apartment or they would have killed him.'

The five English-speaking robbers posing as policemen are believed to have tracked her via her obsession with updating social media.

Within hours of her ordeal the 'hysterical' star fled Paris by private jet back to New York.

Last night she was reunited with her rapper husband Kayne West, daughter North, three, and ten-month-old son Saint.

French police are said to suspect an Eastern European gang with 'inside' help, while a source told the New York Post it was an 'inside job'. The source said: 'French police suspect that the five alleged robbers had some contact with her security and were tipped off about her procedures.

It comes after

  • Her social media updates flaunting her £3.5million diamond engagement ring were blamed for 'telegraphing' her whereabouts.
  • The raiders, who spoke English with heavy accents, bore the hallmarks of the Pink Panther gang of criminals who have been linked to heists worth £280million.
  • It was feared intimate secrets and photos of the star's family could be revealed after a mobile phone were stolen in the raid.
  • Celebrities including British star James Corden rushed to defend Miss Kardashian amid claims it was an elaborate publicity stunt.

At the time her main bodyguard Mr Duvier – who hours earlier had boasted on Twitter that 'you don't become a bodyguard overnight.

'It's a job with dedication, responsibility and passion' – was at a Paris club with her sisters Kourtney Kardashian, 37, and Kendall Jenner, 20.

Miss Kardashian, in Paris for Fashion Week, was described as 'badly shaken but physically unharmed'.

After being interviewed by French detectives, Miss Kardashian boarded a private jet at around 10am. In New York police officers, a convoy of SUVs with blacked-out windows and more than 20 bodyguards were waiting for her.

Wearing all black, with her head down and her hair covering her face, she went straight into her Manhattan home with her husband.

West had earlier abandoned a New York concert mid-song, telling fans there was a 'family emergency'.

When he first spoke to his wife on the phone, she was 'terrified' and 'just hysterical', a source told People magazine. 'He said she was really upset and it took him a few seconds to understand what she was saying to him. He told her that he couldn't care less about the jewellery, he's just thankful she's OK.'

Hidalgo added in a statement that she is fully confident that police forces will quickly identify and arrest those suspected of robbing the U.S. star.

Hidalgo insisted in her statement that the robbery 'in no way calls into question police work or security of public space' in Paris.

Shortly after the incident, Kanye West ended his concert at Meadows Festival in Queens, New York on Sunday due to a 'family emergency'.

The Meadows Festival is organised by the creators of The Governors Ball. Kanye had been due to play the ball on its third and final day back in June but it was cancelled due to rainstorms.

Many fans took to Twitter expressing their anger that the 39-year-old had walked offstage on Sunday night and there was booing in the crowd. They also said that he was 30 to 40 minutes late for his scheduled performance.

The robbery had happened 'really fast', the source added. 'Kanye says that it all hit her after the guys had left, and then it sunk in. She is very upset and couldn't wait to leave Paris. She gave a statement to the police and left right after.

A photographer believed to have been following Miss Kardashian since she arrived in Paris was being questioned by police last night. He is said to have gained access to a restaurant where she and her family were dining earlier this week by posing as a policeman.

Security expert Bruce Anderson said Miss Kardashian's obsessive presence on social media may have been her undoing.

He suggested Twitter and Snapchat messages showing her location, combined with photos of her whereabouts and endless photos showing off her jewellery, could have been a toxic combination.

Just an hour prior to Kanye leaving the stage, Kim was active on Snapchat as she posted a video of herself FaceTiming with Blac Chyna during a baby shower with Rob Kardashian.
