She has been showcasing her slender frame in skin tight dresses and figure huffing fabrics of late but today Queen Letizia of Spain opted to cover up.

With the colder weather setting in the 44-year-old royal ditched her signature lighter fabrics in favour of a cosier wool cape as she arrived in Mondonedo. 

The friendly royal proved popular with the public with hundreds of local wellwishers lining the streets of the Spanish town ahead of her arrival.

The mother-of-four performed her engagement solo this morning leaving behind her husband King Felipe IV as she arrived for the inauguration ceremony at the San Rosendo de Mondonedo Secondary School.

Although she may have opted for a boxier shape for her outfit today the Spanish royal oozed her usual elegance during her visit this morning.

Always a champion for colour coordination Letizia paired her nude coloured cape with a matching clutch bag complemented by her white pleated trousers.

The queen has been favouring a straighter hairstyle of late which could be seen today tamed to its usual sleek finish.

Today's event will see the former journalist welcome the new students taking part in the 2016 vocational course at the school.

Letizia greeted students and teachers alike as she was shown around the vicinity  on Tuesday.

Known as one of the world's most hardworking royals, Letizia was back to work to today having had a hectic schedule last week.

On Friday the Queen took to the stage to hand out awards at the Accion Magistral Awards in Madrid.

The awards recognise the effort that teachers go to beyond their daily jobs, offering children more enriched learning experiences.

The winner takes home several thousand euros as a reward for their efforts, as well as a trophy presented to them by the Queen herself.

The winners and runners-up were joined on stage by their students and all appeared to be in high spirits.

Mother-of-two Letizia displayed her toned figure once more on Wednesday with her washboard stomach visible through her elegant white dress. 

Looking resplendent Letizia, 44, joined her husband King Felipe VI, 48, in their home where they received winners from the Paralympic games during a celebratory reception.
