This is the moment a notorious burglary gang, who raided five houses on the same day, made a panicked escape as a home-owner returned.

The 55-second clip shows three men searching the upmarket property in Hethersett, near Norwich, before getting the fright of their life as the owner came home.

The burglars, who fled the scene, were filmed on a camera in the downstairs hallway.

The video features one of the raiders, wearing a grey top, trousers and hat, going upstairs.

Another intruder, clad in sinister dark clothing and a hat with a scarf up over his face, enters a downstairs room.

A third man is also dressed in dark clothing and puts up his hands in a bid to hide his face as if he knows he's being filmed.

He's clearly caught on camera as he has a look around before rifling through a drawer in a cabinet in the hallway and stealing a golden metal leaf ornament from the top of the unit.

The gang used a crowbar to smash their way in. They are later filmed making a panic-stricken exit as the householder returns.

One of the men emerges from a downstairs room and two run down the stairs in an attempt to escape.

They carried out the raid at around 9.20pm on Tuesday, September 20.

It's one of five burglaries thought to have been committed by the same gang across Norfolk on the same day in a six-hour blitz.

As a result outraged resident Tom Ryves, of Methwold, has posted a £5,000 reward for their arrest and conviction.

As well as the golden metal ornament, a watch was stolen in the Hethersett burglary while cash has been taken in the other raids.

The other burglaries were in Cringleford between 4.30pm and 7.05pm, Scole, Diss between 8.25pm and 8.45pm, Mundford between 10pm and 11pm and in Feltwell between 11pm and 11.12pm.

Detective Sergeant Pete Wilson of Norfolk Police has now urged people to see if they recognise the men in the footage.

He said: 'It's not often we get CCTV of offenders in the address that they are burgling.

'So we're very keen for anyone who has any idea of who these people might be to get in touch as soon as possible.'

Det Sgt Wilson added they would also like information about a white Citroen C4 car believed to have been used by the culprits.

The suspicious motor is believed to be either a VTR or Exclusive model and was first seen in Cringleford at about 7pm.

The car had cloned plates and police would like to hear from anyone with information about the car or plates to contact them.
