Not so Shameless! Emmy Rossum picks Duchess Catherine's red dress for her bridal shower (and she wore it first!)

It's been termed The Kate Effect - the phenomenon whereby anything worn by the British Duchess instantly sells out.

But this time, at least, it turns out that Catherine wasn't such a trendsetter.

A red asymmetrical gown picked by Kate Middleton for her  tour of Canada last week was also worn by Emmy Rossum - just a day earlier.

The Shameless star donned the pricey Preen dress for her bridal shower ahead of her upcoming wedding to Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail.

The 30-year-old actress looked lovely in the mid-length gown, which she teamed with an elegant pair of nude heels for her shower.

Still, she didn't quite achieve the same look as the dazzling Duchess, who added a touch of class with the Queen's own maple leaf diamond broach, which she pinned to her lapel.

The broach was given to the late Queen Mother by her husband, King George VI, to mark the state visit to Canada in 1939.

The $1,750 dress was designed by London designer Thornton Bregazzi under his Preen label.

Nipped in at the waist, gathered at one shoulder and midi-length, it was the perfect mix and fashion and royal glamour.

After a dress-down day in the rain forest, Kate was the epitome of glamour in at a reception for political and civic leaders from across British Columbia at Government House in Victoria.

The slightly asymmetric cut of the neckline, draped bodice and the fit and flare silhouette highlighted her trim figure and the sleek up 'do and minimal jewellery only added to the chic effect of this timeless look.
