Suicide Squad extended cut is announced... as new preview clip teases fans with more Joker and Harley Quinn scenes

The theatrical version was released to mixed reviews in August but instantly became a box office hit.

And it was announced on Wednesday, via the Suicide Squad Twitter page, that the movie is now getting an extended cut, to be made available in November.

The announcement and accompanying preview clip will no doubt have fans hoping they'll finally see the many Jared Leto Joker scenes that didn't make the final cut.

While only 27 seconds long it seems like there will also be plenty more Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie.

It culminates in a pre-Joker Harley Quinn standing in front of a car that could possibly belong to green-haired villain.

The movie will be available on Digital HD on November 15 and Blu-ray on December 13.

In August Robbie explained why she thought the Joker scenes were cut from the movie in an interview with Tipsy Talk

'They probably realized that the emotional through-line of the story had to be the mission that we were on, and explaining the Enchantress’ position and all that kind of stuff.

'And the [Harley and Joker] backstory stuff, though it’s magic and some of the stuff we shot was insane, they are flashbacks … so there’s a lot, but it just didn’t make sense to confuse the present storyline to incorporate all that'

Suicide Squad follows a group of comic book supervillains - played by Will Smith (Deadshot), Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Jay Hernandez (El Diablo), and Cara Delevingne (Enchantress) - who are recruited by the U.S. government, by way of Viola Davis's character (Amanda Haller), to fight off a deadly threat. Leto stars as fellow villain, The Joker.

It didn't receive too many complimentary reviews when it opened on August 5.

Richard Lawson for Vanity Fair called the picture 'a shapeless, poorly edited trudge that adds some mildly appalling sexism and even a soupçon of racism to its abundant, hideously timed gun worship.'

And Entertainment Weekly reviewer Chris Nashawaty wrote that the DC adventure 'kicks off with a fizzy, punk-rock ferocity before turning flat and spiraling into familiar formulas'.

Despite dismal reviews the movie grossed an impressive $739,020,274 worldwide.
