Even her surprise is faked: Clinton was told in advance what questions she'd be asked by Steve Harvey - but feigned shock anyway
- The Washington Free Beacon published a memo to Hillary Clinton from her communications aides outlining every aspect of a Steve Harvey interview
- The aides tell the candidate that they've 'coordinated closely with the show's producers on the script'
- Even a question from a member of the audience is pre-planned with Clinton being brought out to answer it as a grandmothering 'expert'
When talk show host Steve Harvey showed his audience a picture of 12-year-old Hillary Clinton during a February taping, the 68-year-old Hillary Clinton sitting across from him feigned surprise.
'Oh boy, oh my goodness,' the former secretary of state said.
But Clinton, according to a campaign strategy memo published by the Washington Free Beacon, which was part of an email given to the website DCLeaks.com, was fully briefed that this photo and Harvey's questions were coming.

Hillary Clinton (left) appeared on Steve Harvey's (right) show in February. A document given to the Washington Free Beacon shows the entire exchange was pre-planned
Hillary Clinton feigned surprised when Steve Harvey showed a picture of her at 12 years of age. However a memo told Clinton about all the photos Harvey that would used in the segment
In fact, the Clinton campaign outlined practically every moment of the interview with Harvey to the candidate before she went on the show.
The memo, written by Clinton communications aides Karen Finney and Betsaida Alcantara, explains to the nominee that 'YOUR time at the studio will be divided into five segments.'
'We pitched the show on having YOU and Steve discuss gun violence and faith, two issues YOU both care deeply about,' the memo said.
'We coordinated closely with the show's producers on the script and format of the show,' it continued, referencing that Harvey's full list of questions were on the back pages.
The reason for Clinton's appearance on the show in late February was to expose her to African-American and women voters in advance of the South Carolina primary.
That particular primary was important for Clinton because it was the first state where she ended up having a clear win against her Democratic rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Hillary Clinton would enter the show as a surprise 'expert' on grandmothering, as a question an audience member would ask Steve Harvey was pre-planned
In Iowa, the two Democrats were close, and then in New Hampshire, Sanders crushed Clinton because of his next-door-neighbor status.
Harvey was also pitched by the campaign because he had defended Clinton against Sanders on a previous show.
After the November 14, 2015 Democratic debate Harvey did a segment highlighting a double standard in politics, referencing how Sanders suggested Clinton was 'shouting' for speaking out.
'Is this a double standard?' Harvey asked his audience. 'Yeah, it's a double standard. Women have a right to speak up.'
As for the show Clinton was appearing on, she would enter to give 'advice' to an audience member, whose question was in the script.
The reason the Clinton campaign eyed Steve Harvey's show was because the reach it has with black and female voters
The document, authored by two top Clinton communications aides, spells out the exact questions Steve Harvey would ask the candidate, including one from the audience
'Hi Steve. I'm a grandmother of 12 kids so by now I'm running out of fun things to do with them,' a Robin Rick would say. 'I’m looking for new ways to entertain them so I was wondering, since Marjorie is a grandmother like me what are some of her favorite things to do with your grandkids?' she continued referencing Harvey's wife.
Clinton would then enter as a surprise guest and an 'expert' on the subject of being a grandmother.
Harvey would then ask Clinton what she thought of Rick's question.
Her answers were scripted out to include: 'I’m lucky, I only have one grandchild at the moment and another one coming this summer!' the memo said.
'So I’m just experiencing the newness of it all. We spend countless hours just watching Charlotte in awe. When she learned to clap her hands, we gave her a standing ovation,' Clinton was supposed to say.
She was also to mention that baby Charlotte loves 'The Wheels on the Bus,' a tidbit she's shared a handful of times on the campaign trail.
'One suggestion for how to keep the 12 grandkids entertained is to have them play a game together, have them engaged and break them up in teams and plan something that’s active like a scavenger hunt!' Clinton was instructed to answer.
Moving along, Clinton was warned that Harvey would ask her her pizza crust preference and may even ask if she likes pizza with hot sauce or not.
Clinton is known to carry around a bottle.
Then the two would get to the more political topics: race, criminal justice reform and gun violence, with the memo including the answers that Clinton should spout.
During a later segment, and for a different Harvey show, Clinton would answer questions about the Flint, Michigan water crisis.
He would also introduce the former first lady, senator and secretary of state as a 'female groundbreaker' and show the photos that got Clinton so surprised.
'During this segment Steve will take a trip down memory lane with YOU to talk about the different moments of YOUR life displayed in the photographs below,' the memo said, attaching all of the images.
