It is believed the father botched his first suicide attempt and played dead while the police were in the room.

When he was left alone, he reloaded the gun and shot himself a second time.

According to Oregon Live, officer Jeremy Shaw, a Beaverton police spokesman, said the father lived there with the children and their mother. She was not believed to be in the house at the time of the murder-suicide.

'They're in our thoughts and in our hearts,' Shaw said. 'As they grieve, we grieve as a community.'

No other information was immediately available, but there is no risk to the public.

Multiple police cars and an armored truck was pictured at the scene.
