Creepy clowns have been spotted lurking in Sydney and Melbourne outside fast food restaurants and on street corners. One of Sydney's iconic tourist attractions, Taronga Zoo, celebrated its 100th birthday on Friday and both the special guests and animals were treated to a host of celebrations. On this day 100 years ago Taronga Zoo opened its doors to Sydney and today more than five thousand visitors attended the birthday celebration at the Sydney Harbour Zoo with the lucky supporters winning the free tickets from a ballot. UPDATED A state of emergency has been declared in North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida as Hurricane Matthew is poised to hit the US within hours, as its expected to be a catastrophic storm with destructive winds and flooding that hasn't been seen in more than a decade in that area of the East Coast. Even before the full force of the powerful storm hits, thousands of people have already been left without power in some parts of the sunshine state. Florida Power and Light reported that a combined 12,000 customers in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties have been left without power this afternoon as it warns that 2.5 million statewide will experience outages in the aftermath of the storm. About 1.5 million people in Florida have been told to flee inland as the dangerous and life-threatening Category Four storm could become a Category Five and siege on the east coast of the state. The storm that's packing winds of up to 145mph is expected to hit Southeast Florida by Thursday evening through early Friday, as weather forecasters predict it will bring a dangerous storm surge to some parts of the state that will be even worse than what happened in New Jersey during Super Storm Sandy in 2012. Destructive winds and flooding is expected to stretch into Georgia and South Carolina moving up the coast by the weekend. Weather forecasters say the eye of the hurricane may never make landfall, however, the eyewall which contains the strongest winds, may do so.

An eight-year-old from Queensland is changing the way people see autism. Cadence (pictured), who is on the Autism Spectrum, shares her thoughts on the blog I Am Cadence. There she writes posts about why autism does not make her special, only different, and questions why people see autism as a 'label'. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has impressed in the sartorial stakes once again during her visit to a technical school in Roskilde, west of Copenhagen. The 44-year-old stunned in a chic navy tailored suit and a white floral print blouse from Danish designer Baum und Pferdgarten. The mother-of-four spoke with students about what they were working on and spoke to students and teachers about their implementation of the Mary Foundation's Network program. An Australian man has failed miserably as he tried to kill a spider crawling on the wall - which he claims was as big as a bird - despite almost using a whole can of bug spray. The man let's out a series of profanities and begins to run around his home after the spider crawls out of his sight.

This video shows the moment a feisty cat took on a kangaroo that had strayed too close to his home. The footage, shot in Canberra, shows the protective moggy dashing after the kangaroo on a suburban street. Bailey the cat is known for acting like a dog and even growls at the postman when he delivers the mail. And it seems his canine capabilities go even further than that, with the cat unafraid of the kangaroo despite it being more than three times his size.

One photographer was given a rare insight into his 19-month-old son's everyday life after entrusting the adorable little boy with his Canon G12 one day. Timothy Jones, from Bristol, was charmed to find that little Stan (inset) had a gift for taking photos, capturing his surroundings from many quirky angles. Ford enthusiasts gathered outside the car manufacturer's Melbourne plant on Friday to mark the end of its Australian assembly line. Limited edition Ford models drove onto the the grounds of the Broadmeadows Assembly Plant and parked on the grass in front of the factory. About 600 workers have lost their jobs with the closure of the Broadmeadows and Geelong sites, many of whom have spent their entire working lives for the company. The closure brings to an end 91 years of Australian built cars.
