'Unfathomable things happened': Zooey Deschanel explains her break from social media as she poses for Cosmopolitan 

Zooey Deschanel has experienced the downside of fame and being in the public eye. 

The brunette beauty covers the November issue of Cosmopolitan - on newsstands Tuesday, October 11 - and she reveals why she took a four-month break from social media from May 25 until September 20.

The 36-year-old New Girl star said, 'A lot of very strange, tragic, sad, unfathomable things have happened…'

She continued, 'To the point where you’re like, no amount of thoughts and prayers can make this better. It makes me more reflective.' 

'I took a social-media break because everyone feels the need to comment on everything immediately. Sometimes, we need to be thoughtful about what we say,' Zooey added. 

Zooey, who have birth to daughter Elsie Otter last year with husband Jacob Pechenik, was dressed in blue - bringing out her eyes furthermore - for the inside shot of the magazine. 

In the stunning pictorial, the actress showed some leg in a feminine frock similar to one her famous character, Jess, would wear on her hit FOX show.

Zooey's voluminous and enviable tresses were left down in loose waves and she sported her signature bold red lip. 

The three-time Golden Globe nominee and mother-of-one also talked about maternity leave. 

She told the publication, 'We live in a country that doesn’t give paid maternity leave. I felt very lucky to have an employer who was understanding and let me have, like, four months with my baby before I had to go back to work.'

The busy actress who is now in the sixth season of New Girl, which airs on FOX on Tuesday nights, can also be heard in the animated film Trolls which hits theaters on November 4. 

In the movie, which also stars Justin Timberlake's famous voice, Zooey had to learn how to rap. 

'They were like, are you ready to rap? I was like, uhhh…'

Her pop star co-star was there when she recorded the rap remix of Diana Ross's I'm Coming Out. 

'I have great admiration for the man. I didn’t want to screw it up, but the one thing I can’t do is that.'

The humble actress, who makes up the female half of the indie musical duo, She & Him, added, 'It was really scary, but Justin was a great coach.' 

Zooey sizzled on the cover of the magazine in a sexy, plunging fit-and-flare dress which cinched in her tiny waist as she placed her hands on her hips and shot a sexy open-mouth stare back to the camera. 

The actress, who divorced Death Cab For Cutie rocker, Ben Gibbard, in 2012, also discussed humanity in today's society. 

'When I was growing up, I always thought the world would get less bigoted, less racist, and people would be more open-minded. For a while, I thought that was happening, but it’s been very scary the last few years.'
