'She found a lump': Tracy Bevan reveals her 14-year-old daughter had a breast cancer scare

She's been advocating for breast cancer awareness for a decade.

But nothing could prepare McGrath Foundation ambassador Tracy Bevan for when her own daughter Amelia would find a lump in her breast at the age of 14.

Appearing in an interview with the Daily Edition on Friday, the former wife of cricketer Michael Bevan spoke to hosts Sally Obermeder and Tom Williams about the terrifying ordeal, which ultimately turned out to be a false alarm.

'[My daughter] was in the shower and she came out and said, 'mum I need to talk to you about something.' She said, 'I found a lump,'' Tracy revealed.

'She once again, like Jane [McGrath] did, took my hand and I felt quite a large lump. I then asked her, 'what do we need to do?' She said 'we need to call the doctor', which we did - I got an appointment and had an ultrasound that day,' she continued.

'They came back and said it was called a mouse. It' something that moves around the breast, and it's absolutely fine,' she assured, before adding that she felt proud of her daughter for handling the situation with such maturity.

'I was really proud of her that she knew what we needed to do. She knew she needed to be checking her breasts.'

The breast scare no doubt came as a déjà vu moment for Tracy, whose late friend Jane McGrath passed away from the same disease in 2008.

Tracy has previously revealed that Jane, the late wife of cricketer Glenn McGrath- came to her hotel room saying she had a found a lump in her breast.

The pair were in England while their husbands were playing in the Ashes series.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Jane decided to establish the McGrath Foundation with her husband in 2002 as a way of supporting the breast care nurses who were helping Jane in her battle.

Following Jane's death, Tracy dedicated her life to continuing her former friend's legacy by campaigning for breast cancer awareness as an ambassador for the McGrath Foundation.
