Natalie Portman stars as Jacqueline Kennedy in the hours and days following the assassination of her husband President John F. Kennedy in the film Jackie.

And the first full-length trailer for the movie was released Wednesday giving fans an idea of why the biopic was greeted with such acclaim when it premiered at the Venice International Film Festival.

Portman, who won an Academy Award for Black Swan, nails the former First Lady's whispery slightly accented voice and her distinctive beauty in the role many pundits predict will earn her a second Oscar.

Moving portrayal: Natalie Portman stars as First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the hours and days following the assassination of her husband in the just released trailer for the film Jackie

The film directed by Chilean Pablo Larrain paints a portrait of Jackie as she lives through and then seeks to come to terms with the loss of her husband.

The trailer opens with the sound of Richard Burton as King Arthur singing from the original cast recording of the musical Camelot.

Then is seen crowds of people reflected in the passing darkened window of a limousine as Portman's face slowing comes into view as she leans her head against the glass.

Slowly Portman comes into view as the widowed Jackie with her head pressed up against the window of the moving vehicle

In an iconic scene, Portman accompanied by two children as John and Caroline Kennedy leaves the White House for her husband's funeral

The movie recreates the famous moment when the First Lady, in widows weeds, kneels to plant a kiss on her husband's coffin with daughter Caroline by her side

Then flashbacks of her time in the White House are intercut with scenes of the her arrival on board Air Force One at Dallas Love Field, the assassination and the immediate aftermath.

In one powerful scene, Portman is seen from behind standing naked in the shower washing off the blood of the murdered president.

As the enormity of what's happened sinks in, she breaks into hysterical grief-laden sobs .

The trailer shows Portman as Jackie walking down the steps of Air Force One after arriving at Dallas Love Field

The camera pans over the presidential limousine with the secret service agent clinging to the boot after Kennedy is shot

Portman is next seen with her back to the camera standing naked in the shower as her slain husband's blood streams down her back

She breaks down into hysterical grief-laden sobs as the enormity of what has happened starts to sink in

While the trailer is basically made up of pieces from many different scenes, Portman is heard speaking in character as the music from Camelot plays underneath.

'People like to believe in fairy tales,' she says.

'Don't let it be forgot that for one brief, shining moment, there was Camelot.'

Then after a pause, she adds: 'There'll never be another Camelot.'

Jackie will be released in theatres by Fox Searchlight on December 2.

In addition to Portman's acting being tipped for Oscar glory, it's already collecting accolades for its screenplay. First time scribe Noah Oppenheim picked up the screenplay prize at the Venice Film Festival last month.

Camelot - the mythical kingdom - was how the Kennedy White House was portrayed following the election of the youngest President in American history

The public was fascinated by the president, who was 43 when he took office, and his beautiful bride who transformed the White House into a cultural and fashionable salon

Jackie is also portrayed as a devoted mother who despite the trappings that came with being First Lady, maintained a normal family life for her children Caroline and John

John-John, as he was known, turned three just two weeks before his father was gunned down in Dallas on November 22, 1963

Portman is seen walking across fields towards the water at sunset with her kids running ahead of her

It's contrasted with the loneliness and solitude she faced following the assassination, shown as she walks alone through the graves at Arlington National Ceremony

Jackie is directed by Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain and is expected to earn Portman another Best Actress Academy Award nomination. It opens in theatres on December 2
