Dog lovers, look away now!  A distraught owner in Thailand got the shock of her life when she awoke to find her beloved pet head first in the jaws of an enormous python.

Klomphan Khiewwan, who lives in the central Thai provice of Pathum Thani, came downstairs at 3am to discover her pooch wrapped in its coils and half eaten by the 6 metre long snake.

She called for help from volunteer rescue service the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, who arrived at the home with snake-catching equipment.

Unfortunately it was too late for poor Fino who died in the python's unyielding grip.

Miss Khiewwan, 21, said she'd heard loud noises from the dog earlier that evening while she was trying to sleep upstairs but she hadn't thought to check on her canine pal.

According to Coconut News, Bangkok, volunteers arrived at the scene and made a move to get closer to the snake. But the hungry serpent backed off, spitting out the half-eaten dog in and attempt to make an escape.

The python was eventually caught and has been released back into the wild, where hopefully it will find more appropriate prey and lay off unsuspecting domestic pets.

The tragic scenario is sadly not uncommon. In 2014  horrified dog owners in Australia caught a 3.5m python devouring the family's Maltese-Shih tzu named Walter on their North Queensland property.

And in March a Chinese pet owner caused outrage after he deliberately fed a puppy to his pet golden python to test whether the reptile would eat it.

In the background of the six-second clip, a man can be heard saying 'the snake surely will not eat it'. Afterwards, a woman is heard crying in horror.
