No-chella! OldChella tickets for 'once-in-a-lifetime' festival with Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney sell for less than HALF their original $400 price on the secondary market

  • Desert Trip's festival tickets for both weekends sold out in May
  • But now prices on sites like Stubhub and VividSeats are as low as $149
  • Goldenvoice released more tickets this month, hurting the resale market
  • The concert promoter also offered discount tickets for purchase at Costco
  • Show will also feature Bob Dylan, the Who, Neil Young, Roger Waters

Desert Trip is being hailed as a 'once-in-a-lifetime' festival experience, but tickets to the classic rock festival are selling for less than half their original price.

Tickets for the three-day event, featuring performances from the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney, sold out within hours when they went on sale in May for prices starting at $400.

But now ticket scalpers are struggling to sell passes on the secondary market, with prices hitting as low as $179 on VividSeats and $149 on Stubhub as of Thursday.

The numbers have shocked many due to the festival's legendary headliners, which also include Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Who, and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters.

And the festival is being held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, where tickets to the popular Coachella festival are often scalped for more than $500.

But 'Oldchella', as Desert Trip has been dubbed, has struggled to sell tickets in the weeks leading up to the October 7 and 14 weekend dates.

Partially to blame could be the target fan base, an older crowd that is less likely to take the risk of waiting to buy tickets last-minute in the hopes that prices will drop.

Goldenvoice, the concert's promoter, also hurt the resale market by releasing more tickets just two weeks ago despite claiming they were sold out in May, according to Bloomberg

That was in addition to the discount general admission tickets that Goldenvoice released for purchase at Costco within the last month.

The Costco tickets were sold for $348, and other packages were being offered at a discount price as well.

Although it appears that speculators have overestimated the demand for tickets in the secondary market, Oldchella is still predicted to be a massive success.

Billboard has estimated that the two-weekend box office numbers will hit as high as $100million, making $15million more than Coachella.

With those predicted figures, some are even suspecting Oldchella may become the highest-grossing music festival of all time.

And with that kind of money coming to concert promoters' pockets, it seems this 'once-in-a-lifetime' show will be around for many years to come.
