Boost for Sale Sharks as skipper James Gaskell recovers from injury quicker than expected
Sale Sharks have received a major fitness boost surrounding their new skipper James Gaskell.
Walking wounded: James Gaskell could be fit to play this weekend after his injury
The 20-year-old lock was forced off during Sale's 28-13 Aviva Premiership defeat against Saracens at Vicarage Road two days ago.
There were initial fears that he might have suffered a fractured fibula, but those concerns have now been allayed and Gaskell could even be involved in Friday night's Edgeley Park appointment with Premiership rivals Harlequins.
'The good news regarding James is that there is no fracture, or even strain,' said Sale head coach Mike Brewer.
'It looks like he will have an 80 per cent chance of being fit to play at home to Harlequins on Friday. The factor that will determine whether James can play will
be whether he is able to train on Wednesday.
'Had he been ruled out for a week or two, I wouldn't have been overly concerned, but obviously it is good news that the injury is not what we first feared.'
