Adam Sandler gets a geek makeover to film Netflix comedy Sandy Wexler with Arsenio Hall

Adam Sandler's forthcoming Netflix film casts him as a Broadway Danny Rose-esque agent with a less than stellar troupe of clients.

And as he filmed on Monday, it was evident he had captured his character's nebbish, geeky look excellently.

The 49-year-old was spotted at a Los Angeles newsagent's performing a scene in bulky glasses and a pitch-perfect outfit opposite Arsenio Hall.

An issue of Variety under his arm and a takeaway coffee in hand, his character had pulled a pale yellow jacket over a dark shirt with an intricate white pattern.

Beige trousers and white trainers underlined the aesthetic for the Saturday Night Live alumnus.

Between takes, he went over his sides and blocking with his director, Steven Brill. The Happy Gilmore star had co-written the screenplay with Paul Sado and Dan Bulla.

For his costume, the 60-year-old wore a navy baseball cap backward, complementing short-sleeved, blue checked sweats. White trainers clashed with the overall ensemble.

Clutching his own magazine, he stood by a tree and stared away from Sandler through a round pair of black sunglasses.

This will be the chat show host's first film role since he played Tasty Freeze in the 2009 blaxploitation parody Black Dynamite.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film's title character meets a singer played by Jennifer Hudson in a theme park and, in addition to discovering her talent, winds up besotted with her.

The third in Sandler's four-film Netflix contract, Sandy Wexler will feature New Girl's Lamorne Morris alongside a phalanx of Sandler stalwarts like Kevin James, Nick Swardson, Rob Schneider, Colin Quinn and Terry Crews.

Presumably, several of them will populate Wexler's idiosyncratic and unsuccessful client list, which he begins to neglect as he grows increasingly infatuated with Hudson's Courtney Clarke.

Sandler's first Netflix film, a comedic Western called The Ridiculous 6, premiered 11 December last year.

At the next Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, chief content officer Ted Sarandos claimed it snagged more views its first 30 days than any other film had done on the site in that amount of time.

Its follow-up, this May's The Do-Over, co-starred David Spade and was directed by Brill. Despite being critically ravaged, it climbed to number one in viewership in every one of the site's territories.

Sandy Wexler will premiere on Netflix in 2017.
