  • Folau is reportedly on a $2 million annual salary untill 2018

He may not be coming home with the coveted Rugby World Cup, but Wallabies fullback Israel Folau will have the comfort of a freshly purchased sprawling mansion in Sydney's leafy north-west.

Sitting on five untouched acres in Kenthurst, Folau snapped up the $2.1 million four-bedroom trophy home back in June according to Domain - which will make it pretty difficult for him to stay sour.

The powerhouse rugby union player was a driving force in Australia's campaign, which was brought to a close in a nailbiting 34-17 loss in the finals to the New Zealand All Blacks at Twickenham Stadium in London on Sunday.

The sportsman legend will be able to recover from a grueling season of rugby in his backyard pool, or enjoying the tranquility of a huge rural backyard.

Folau, 26, is rumoured to be building quite a property resume, with Domain reporting that he purchased an investment house in nearby Stanhope Gardens for a cool $1million in March.

His new house, built more than a decade ago, features four spacious bedrooms, three bathrooms, a huge shed and a stunning colonnaded entrance.

Folau has been criticised in the past for his financial motivations in the sporting circles, switching codes and clubs with a frequency unmatched by most of his peers.

The Polynesian youngster rocketed to fame after signing with the Melbourne Storm rugby league club in 2007, breaking the record for the most tries in a debut season.

By 2008, Folau was one of the hottest players on the scene, representing Australia in international matches. He was snapped up by the Brisbane Broncos in 2009, where he played for two years before jumping codes to the Australian Football League in 2011.

In 2013, the athlete proved he was a triple threat - making his final switch to the NSW Waratah's Rugby Union club.

He is now reportedly earning almost $2 million a year, signing a flexible three-year contract with Australian rugby that will allow him to play out his off-season with the NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes - a club in the Top League in Japan.
