But instead of revisiting the ghoul-filled Sunnydale, Alyson Hannigan opted for a more traditional costume when she took her two daughters trick or treating on Saturday evening in Los Angeles.

Heading out with husband Alexis Denisof, 49, the 41-year-old actress opted for a cute approach to Halloween when she stepped out - dressed as a cauldron - with daughters Satyana and Keeva.

Eschewing the modern trend for a 'sexy' Halloween costume, the American Pie star opted for a spooky yet fun theme as she and her family visited homes in their neighbourhood in search of candy.

Heading out with her two daughters, who dressed as a witch and her cat, the How I Met your Mother star played a more supporting role in the spook-tacular troop.

Dressing as a witch's most famous accessory, the star wore a boiling, flame-tinged cauldron around her waist.

Slipping into a black bodysuit embellished with bubbles, the actress -w ho shot to fame as witch Willow in Buffy - cooked up quite the look, as she accessorised her outfit with a of wispy cotton wool cascading over the rim of her pot.

Rounding off her bewitching look, Alyson wore a cut bubble headband to keep her famous flame-tinted locks in place.

Her eldest daughter, Satyana, six, wore a cute witches outfit, and shared more than a passing resemblance with her mother's old character in Joss Whedon's teen-horror drama, Willow the witch.
