The film is based on the French comic book series Valérian And Laureline, created by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières.
Dane and Cara play the respective titular characters, a pair of intergalactic police partners who work for the human government, now spread throughout the universe.
The film focuses on the city of Alpha, a sprawling space metropolis home to 17million inhabitants and thousands of different species, most of whom are united for the betterment of all civilizations — and a few who are not.
The poster shows the due standing outside their ship - the XB982 - on a barren planet, presumably not the eponymous City Of A Thousand Planets.
First look: The poster shows the due standing outside their ship - the XB982 - on a barren planet, presumably not the eponymous City Of A Thousand Planets
The ship bears a striking resemblance to Han Solo's Millennium Falcon, and isn't the only thing in the Valerian universe that will feel familiar to Star Wars fans, as the latter is understood to have been influenced by the former.
In the images, Dane and Cara can be seen inside the ship, looking intense as they co-pilot the vessel.
According to the official synopsis, Valerian has 'more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner- blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance'.
However Laureline - knowing his 'extensive history with women' coupled with her traditional values - is having none of it.
Packing: Another image shows Dane in his spacesuit, hand resting on his sidearm as he watches eyes something warily out of shot

The final image shows a trio of aliens, boasting the leathery skin and wings of a bat, elongated duckbill snouts and the hair of a baby elephant - but with rather friendly demeanor.
The film is helmed by French director Luc Besson, who was behind the hugely popular Nikita, Leon: The Professional and The Fifth Element, and the more recent and less popular Lucy.
It also stars Owen Wilson, Rutger Hauer, John Goodman, Ethan Hawke, and Rihanna.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is set of release in July, 2017.
