Rihanna announces Diamond Ball to support charity

NEW YORK (AP) — Rihanna will host her first Diamond Ball on Dec. 11 to benefit her foundation that promotes education and arts globally.

Rihanna announced Thursday that she would hold the black tie event at The Vineyard in Beverly Hills, California.

The Barbadian-born singer founded the Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012, named after her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite.

Says Rihanna: "There is truly nothing I'm more proud of and we've just gotten started."

The Diamond Ball will host around 600 guests, including celebrities. Attendees will be announced at a later date.

Rihanna says the first annual event will be "elegant and inspirational."
