Smize if you want supermodel skin! As Tyra Banks adds SKINCARE products to her beauty line, she reveals what's behind her AGELESS complexion

  • Tyra, 42, added three new skincare products (a cleanser, exfoliator and serum) to her Tyra Beauty brand
  • They're designed to be fun and keep skin looking young
  • Tyra said her good skincare habits come from her mother

When Tyra Banks, 42, couldn't find skincare products she actually liked using, she decided to create her own. 'I just want to be excited to wash my face at night,' she said.

The three new items - a cleanser, exfoliator and serum - launched this week as an extension to her existing Tyra Beauty line, which features 30+ color cosmetics.

'If make-up can be transformative and delightful, why can't skincare?' Tyra said she asked herself before creating the new products.

The supermodel-turned-CEO, and mom to eight-month-old son York Banks-Asla, credits her own mother for her seemingly ageless skin.

In an Instagram video, Tyra said: 'When I'm on social media and reading comments and stuff, the one that makes me smile the biggest is when people are like, "Dang girl, you look so young. I can't believe you're in your forties." It feels so good, but there's a reason for it. I get it from my mama. I'm not talking about DNA or some kind of youth gene that passed down through ages of my family.

'I'm talking about habits. I can hear my mom's voice now: "Tyra, you better stop washing your face with just your dirty little hands. Don't you know that all you're doing is spreading that dirt all over your face?" I can remember that like it was yesterday.

'My mama is so obsessed with make-up. She loves make-up. But she is even more obsessed with skincare. Like skin is it. It is all about the canvas, and that has been ingrained in me since I was six years old.'

Tyra took her mother's tip about not using your hands to wash your face to heart when she developed her new cleanser, The Clean Machine.

After perfecting the formula, Tyra said she wanted to 'turbo-charge it' for an even deeper clean. To do so, she added a silicone-bristled brushhead to the top of the bottle, so that when you dispense and apply the product, you're also getting the benefits of a gentle, manual exfoliation.

Her second product in the range, The Secret Weapon, was also mom-inspired. Tyra said she grew up with a washcloth practically glued to her hand.

'My mom said that you cannot wash your face without sloughing off the dead skin cells,' she said. 'But as I got older, a washcloth wasn't enough.'

The Secret Weapon uses the same aluminum-oxide crystals found in professional microdermabrasion treatments to exfoliate the skin at home. 'I want to glow without spending tons of dough,' she quipped.

To 'seal the deal', Tyra created a serum, aptly named The Closer, which is designed to be used after exfoliation to soothe the skin. Tyra feels so passionately about using the products in tandem that you can purchase them as a set.

The three skincare heroes join one existing complexion-based sku, her Instant Gratification masks.

Tyra has been teasing the product launch on her Instagram for the past week. The producer and former host of America's Next Top Model posted a series of videos that addressed her concerns with the products she had been using and also alluded to how young she looks for her age.

In one, for instance, she said: 'I might look young, but child, I'm not young. And I just want my face to wash itself right now, to get that deep-ass clean because, look, I got a lot of make-up on my face and I cannot go to bed without washing my face because my mama will get on an airplane and kick my ass.

'I just want that deep clean, and you know how you use exfoliation stuff and those little nubby bits get all up in your hairline or in your bra and stuff? And it's like I was washing my face, and now I got leftovers. Ain't nobody got time for that.

'And I also want to wash my face so that I don't have to worry about taking 15 minutes to find the right filter to filterize the things that I need to correct. Y'all know what I'm talking about.'

In another, she admits to occasionally sleeping in her make-up, despite her mom's threats and waking up to a face full of 'friends or enemies' in reference to pimples and breakouts.

Tyra's ultimate takeaway for the line?

'I'm ready to make your skin regimen fun,' she said. 'I'm ready to make it delightful. And I'm ready to make this stuff do good stuff to your face...Stop rubbing the dirt around.'
