Aidan Turner, 32, who found fame as Poldark, put on a seriously suave performance as the handsome and dangerous Philip Lombard in the new Agatha Christie adaptation, And Then There Were None, and immediately sparked a deluge of lustful tweets thanks to his towel scenes

Rather than focussing on the whodunnit element of Agatha Christie's classic murder mystery, fans used social media to express their views on the newly-single actor's impressive body.

One user wrote: 'Is Aidan Turner contractually obliged to get his kit off? I'm not complaining mind, not at all *wipes drool off chin*', whilst another echoed her sentiments, adding: 'Thank you to the glorious person at the BBC who has worked tirelessly to get Aidan Turner so topless on TV this year. Thank you BBC.'

Other users were more explicit in their views, like Rose H, who simply wrote: 'Drop the towel. Drop the towel. #AidanTurner #AndThenThereWereNone'.

Many Twitter users noted that stripping off on the BBC seems to be part of the actor's contract.

Alison Pritchard wrote: 'Beginning to think that the BBC won't hire Aidan Turner unless he agrees to strip off', whilst Abbie Christmas added: 'Poor Aidan Turner, forced to remove his shirt again in the name of art.'

Many Twitter users noted that stripping off on the BBC seems to be part of the actor's contract and many users also suggested he should fill the role of James Bond

Fan reaction comes just days after Turner was hailed as the top choice for the next James Bond, with viewers taking to Twitter following the first installment of the BBC drama on Saturday evening to express what a wonderful 007 the 32-year-old would make.

One social media user posted: 'Convinced Aidan Turner (Poldark) to be next James Bond @007. Has acting skills and the look', while another wrote, 'Aidan Turner would be an interestingly left field choice for the next James Bond.

A third fan shared, 'After watching #AndThenThereWereNone @AidanTurner would make a great James Bond', while yet another posted, 'Am I alone in thinking Aidan Turner would make a rather good James Bond? #AndThenThereWereNone'.

Aidan has stiff competition for the part, with the likes of Idris Elba, Damian Lewis, Tom Hardy and Tom Hiddleston all rumoured to be in the running to take over from Craig.

And Then There Were None is Aidan's first role since Poldark, the TV sensation that catapulted him to fame back in the spring.

The crime drama, which concludes tonight, tells the story of ten people getting killed on a island for each being complicit in murder.

Describing his latest role, Poldark recently told the Daily Mail: ‘My character, Philip Lombard, is exactly the kind of person I was looking to play after Poldark because he’s such a contrast to Ross – both physically and mentally,’ he says.

‘Lombard may be clean-cut and neatly dressed but he’s a mercenary, a gun for hire.

'He’s done a lot of nasty things for his own benefit, really immoral, only cares about himself, massive ego, but a smart, confident, charming guy.'
