SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Princess Beatrice’s new job? Jetsetting around the world for charity
Princess Beatrice visited an eye hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, last week
Like globetrotting father, like daughter, as Princess Beatrice tries to find her feet in the world after flitting between five jobs in as many years.
The newly single royal is following in the footsteps of Prince Andrew, aka Air Miles Andy, by travelling to far-flung destinations to court rich and influential patrons.
Beatrice touched down in Bhutan yesterday, visited by the Duke of York in 2010, where she had a private meeting with the Buddhist nation’s royal family.
Unlike the jetsetting princess’s lavish holidays over the summer to the Greek islands and the South of France, the ten-day Himalayan jaunt is a philanthropic mission.
Beatrice, 28, who wants to focus on charitable work after her split from long-term beau Dave Clark in August, is helping to raise funds for educational and health charity the Franks Family Foundation.
Earlier last week, Beatrice — with a royal bodyguard in tow — represented the foundation as she visited an eye hospital and Hindu temple in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The charity was co-founded in 2006 by Bea’s friend Simon Franks, 45, a film producer and major Labour party donor who hit the headlines following a street brawl with George Clooney in 2005.
The philanthropist’s patronage will come in handy for Beatrice, who is between jobs after leaving the New York investment firm Sandbridge Capital in June.
At the time of her exit, sources claimed Bea had been given the boot, but friends insisted she resigned from the firm to set up her own business consultancy.

Naturally, the eldest daughter of the go-getting Duke and Duchess of York has ‘entrepreneurial ambitions’.
Either way, party-loving Bea seems in no hurry to clock on to the nine to five. In happier times with Clark, the couple were pictured lounging on luxury yachts and partying with Roman Abramovich in the Caribbean.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman says: ‘Princess Beatrice is currently visiting South East Asia. The trip is being funded privately.’
Sparks fly at Lady V’s 40th
Lady Victoria Hervey marked her 40th birthday on Thursday with a sparkler candle at a small dinner in Chelsea.
However she made an uncharacteristically early night of it as she was due to fly the next day to a royal wedding in Albania.

Prince Leka II of Albania, the son of Victoria’s late godfather Prince Leka I, yesterday tied the knot with Elia Zaharia, an actress and singer.
‘I am hoping to meet my Albanian Prince but there’s going to be people from all over so who knows,’ Lady Victoria told me.
Maybe she will meet her own prince charming.

BBC’s arch inquisitor falls prey to Snapchat
Proof that John Humphrys is away with the fairies?
The Radio 4 Today programme presenter Sarah Montague posted a picture of her (normally) curmudgeonly 73-year-old colleague with the triumphant message: ‘Just introduced John to Snapchat.’
The instant messaging site is used by teenagers to send explicit pictures to each other.
Let’s hope that Humphrys’s flirtation doesn’t extend too far.
Disgraced Duke ordered to wear tag for burglary
His Grace the Duke of Manchester has taken to sporting an ankle bracelet. Alas, it is not a fashion statement but an emblem of his new status as a felon under house arrest — a development which stems from a night in July when a woman awoke in her home in Las Vegas to find a substantial, shirtless man prowling her hallway.
The intruder, as I disclosed, was Alex Montagu, the reprobate 53-year-old Duke of Manchester. Now, having pleaded guilty to attempted burglary, a condition of his release is that he submits to ‘house arrest’ — hence the ankle bracelet, complete with tracking device.
The Duke, who will be sentenced in on January 24, has also been ordered to avoid all contact with the unfortunate woman and all ‘physical contact’ with his third wife, Laura, from whom he is estranged.
It could prove third time unlucky for the Duke, who has already been jailed twice for fraud in Australia.
When the red mist descends on orange-skinned presidential hopeful Donald Trump, minions should run for cover. Just ask well-heeled shoemaker Lady Norreys. She has witnessed Trump’s bully boy antics at uncomfortably close quarters.
Lucinda Norreys, whose husband Henry is the heir to the Earl of Lindsey and Abingdon, once worked at the luxury store Asprey, which was based in Trump Tower, New York, and used to see the comb-over king every day.
‘I was at the receiving end of one of his rages,’ she says. ‘I was so scared I couldn’t move.’
