'I'm not sure they're real': Sarah Jessica Parker shares mind-blowing Sex And The City theory that Carrie's BFFs don't actually exist - she made them up

Sarah Jessica Parker has just dropped a mind-blowing theory about Sex And The City.

The actress - who played Carrie Bradshaw in the hit HBO show and two movies - believes that her pals Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte might actually be figments of her character's literary imagination.

'I used to wonder if Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda were real,' Sarah, 51, said during an interview with Chris Hardwick on the Nerdist podcast.

Show if off like Sarah in a mesh dress by Philopshy di Lorenzo Serafini

Sarah Jessica Parker looks first class in dress by Italian fashion house Philosphy. We love the mesh illusion, midi length and pearl detail of this dress, which mixes edginess with demur sensibility. It's like being covered up is more sexy for once.

The fashion icon actress knows how to style things perfectly. She unexpectedly paired this dress with some futuristic purple boots. Wow! But we've seen similar mesh dresses recentl on the likes of Bond girls Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux. And it doesn't get much better than that, ladies! Mesh is in!

'That that it wasn't just her column... because they're such perfectly archetypal characters. So you're writing a column about sexual politics and observations of female/male primarily, heterosexual relationships, so you're picking one type.

'You're saying "this type is this and this", and then you complicate it more, like any good writer does. So I'm not entirely sure they are real.'

Sarah further explains why she believes Carrie puts herself into the lives of these 'literary conceits'.

'She is among them because that's her way of infiltrating story and affecting story too, to have her own actions affect those friendships and document their response,' the actress explains.

The theory could fit, considering each episode is narrated by Carrie and the storylines that play out are all those that she writes about in her weekly column for the fictional newspaper The New York Star.

Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis have played Carrie's BFFs since the show first aired in 1998 and, imaginary or not, there is talk of all four ladies returning to the big screen in a third Sex And The City movie.

'I don’t think any of us have said no,' Parker told the Press Association.

'I don’t know whether it’s a series or the movie. I think that remains an open question and discussion that will continue until it’s been resolved.'

Sarah can next be seen in her new HBO series, Divorce, which will premiere October 9 at 10pm.
