Fox News' Sean Hannity and Megyn Kelly share awkward photo and insist they are '#friends' after public feud over Donald Trump

  • Sean Hannity lashed out at Megyn Kelly over Donald Trump comments
  • Kelly said Trump will, 'pretty much only go on Hannity' for interviews
  • Hannity fired back, saying Kelly 'clearly' supports Hillary in a bizarre attack
  • Both posted photo of themselves a day later saying they were '#friends'
  • Twitters users called it a staged PR stunt, joking either Kelly or Hannity had been taken hostage and forced into smiling for the photo

Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Megyn Kelly declared their friendship on Twitter after a public spat about the presidential candidates - but not everyone was convinced.

Kelly tweeted a picture of her and Hannity together on the set of The Kelly File on Thursday night, with a note, 'We're Irish. It's complicated. #friends.'

Hannity issued a near-identical tweet, prompting Twitter users to call the camaraderie a staged PR stunt after their tense exchange the night before.

Kelly had called out Donald Trump on Wednesday for seeking out friendly media interviews with Hannity, who responded with a tweet accusing Kelly of supporting Hillary Clinton.

Discussing how the presidential candidates were approaching the second debate with political pundit Stuart Stevens, Kelly said: 'They are both (Trump and Clinton) in their own version of a presidential protection program.'

'They've designed her (Clinton's) situation so she is not in a place she feels uncomfortable or where anything unexpected could come at her,' she said.

'Donald Trump, with all due respect to my friend at 10:00, will go on Hannity and pretty much only Hannity and will not venture out to the unsafe spaces these days,' Kelly added.

Hannity, who has reportedly been an informal adviser for the Trump campaign since earlier this year, tweeted furiously at Kelly after her comments aired.

'@megynkelly u (sic) should be mad at @HillaryClinton Clearly you support her. And @realDonaldTrump did talk to u (sic),' Hannity wrote.

Even though Kelly had called out Clinton's choice of media appearances as well as Trump's, Hannity wrote: 'Where is Hillary? Trump is on ABC CBS NBC CNN and yes me too!! HRC hides and gets questions from nobody.'

When Twitter user Paul Goldsmith responded to Hannity, writing, 'Not cool, dude. Stand by your colleagues,' Hannity shot back with, 'Sure. When they stand by me.'

But Hannity and Kelly appeared to have made up the next day, even using the hashtag '#friends' to insist there was no bad blood.

Hannity insisted it was a 'MINOR disagreement', and Kelly drove the point home by ending her program with another shout out, saying: 'Up next: Live, Sean Hannity. My friend.'

'Donald Trump, with all due respect to my friend at 10:00, will go on Hannity and pretty much only Hannity and will not venture out to the unsafe spaces these days,' Kelly said on her show

But the Twittersphere remained unconvinced, with one person suggesting they were 'frenemies'.

Donna Hazel, tweeting under the username @oconnellaboo, wrote: "@megynkelly No, you don't get to blame your Irish blood. It was a memo from your corporate masters to make nice. Nothing Irish about that.'

User @CPD1962 took a more lighthearted approach, writing:'@seanhannity @megynkelly Not sure about the photo of you 2. Looks like mom forcing reluctant siblings 2 the prom because neither had dates.'

Others joked that either Kelly or Hannity had been taken hostage and forced into taking the photo.

The clash between the two network hosts came a day after Trump himself attacked Kelly on Twitter.

Before the vice presidential debate kicked off, Kelly joked on-air about Trump saying he was going to live-tweet the debate.

Kelly said Trump would be: 'surrounded by his team! Kellyanne's got the thumbs. Only when they're released will he [tweet].'

The reality television host shot back: 'I am in Nevada. Sorry to inform you Kellyanne is in the audience. Better luck next time.'

The two sparred through the presidential campaign, with Trump saying on CNN that Kelly had 'blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever' during a Republican debate last August.
