She's made a fortune from flaunting her riches (and figure) on social media but now she's 'on a break' from Instagram, we ask: What next for Kim?
- Kim Kardashian has vowed to stop showing off her jewels on social media
- She obsessively shares pictures of her riches to more than 100m followers
- But reality TV star has been reinventing herself since marrying Kanye West
- She has already forged reputation as a tech entrepreneur and campaigner
- Overtook Kanye as main breadwinner last year, earning around £35million
When Forbes magazine placed her at number 42 on their Rich List of the World's Highest Paid Celebrities, Kim Kardashian could not resist bragging about how far she had come from the days when she achieved infamy in a dubious sex tape.
Taking to Twitter, the multi-millionairess - who made her name in the much-maligned reality TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians - mocked her detractors with the hashtag: #NotBadForAGirlWithNoTalent.
Now three months later, she is ruing the day that she began chronicling her life and riches on social media.
For, although the mother-of-two has amassed a fortune by posting every minute detail about her conspicuous consumption on social media, it was a photograph of her £3.5 million 20-carat engagement ring, which she posted on Instagram six days ago, that would prove her downfall.

Reality star Kim, 35, pictured on Thursday, built her fortune by flaunting her wealth and famous figure to an army of social media followers
She has 84.4 million followers on Instagram and 48.3 million fans on Twitter - and the numbers are rising in the wake of her traumatic gunpoint robbery in Paris.
And after receiving a diatribe of abuse - Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld blamed her for being partly responsible for the heist after flaunting her wealth - she has decided to take a month off work and scale back on social media.
'This incident was a completely life-changing event for Kim,' a source told Us magazine. 'She realizes she was living in a bubble doing what she was doing.
'She loved flaunting her wealth and being so public. She felt safe and never really thought about her vulnerability. Now she knows she was so naive. Everything has to change going forward.'
So what will Kardashian do now? After all she has earned her fortune through self-promotion - from the moment she first appeared on American TV channel E!'s real life soap opera nine years ago she has barely been out of the public eye.
In fact, she is so ubiquitous that some people have even suggested that the robbery, in which she was tied up in the bathroom of a luxurious Paris apartment and robbed at gunpoint by five masked men, could have been a PR stunt.
Certainly it appeared to have come at an opportune moment, raising her profile as the 13th series of Keeping Up with the Kardashians prepares to air - ratings fell to an all-time low in June when her brother Rob announced his engagement to model Blac Chyna.
But she has told friends she was naive to keep flaunting her wealth on Instagram and has said she will stop. Pictured: Kardashian's bling at the Met Gala in New York
Kim's biographer Sean Smith said for the last few years her life has been gradually moving on from her reality TV persona to that of a businesswoman. Pictured: Lounging on her private jet
The majority of Kim's income comes from mobile phone apps like Kim Kardashian: Hollywood mobile game, Kimoji and personal apps. She has also been raising awareness for the genocide in Armenia and is supporter of the Dream Foundation, helping terminally-ill adults
However, according to her biographer Sean Smith, Kim's career has been slowly moving in a new direction since she married rapper Kanye West, father of her two children, daughter North three, and ten-month-old son Saint in 2014 - the couple was named on Time magazine's list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World a year later. He believes she is perfectly capable of reinventing herself.
Not only has she become a vocal campaigner - raising awareness of the genocide in Armenia - her ancestral home - supporting the Dream Foundation for terminally-ill adults and breaking taboos on mental illness - but she is now making a fortune in mobile technology.
In fact, according to Forbes, which describes her as a 'tech entrepreneur', she made more money last year from her Kim Kardashian: Hollywood mobile game, (40 per cent of her annual paycheck) Kimoji and personal apps, than she did from anything else.
'I don't think she needs to carry on as the Kim Kardashian we all know,' says Smith. 'She can now take a step back without the business suffering. She has made $100million (£81m) from her fabulous looks, body and public persona.
'But now she doesn't need to go on doing that because there are other members of the family to promote the Kardashian brand. In effect she can be chairwoman of the board and mastermind everything from her fabulous mansion.

Rapper West, father to Kim's daughter North, three, and son Saint, ten months, was once the biggest earner in the relationship. But last year Kim earned £35million, outstripping Kanye
'Kim is a much smarter and more intelligent person than people give her credit for. In the long run, I believe, she will become a much more serious public figure.'
Certainly the Kardashian Wests can afford to sit back on their laurels. Although West announced on Twitter earlier this year that he was £41.6 million in personal debt - he cheekily asked Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg for a loan - the couple is conservatively estimated to be worth £140 million between them, making suggestions that they staged the robbery likely to be wide off the mark.
While West has dropped off the Forbes list of highest-earning celebrities - he ranked 20 in 2014 - he still made number seven on the magazine's 2015 list of the World's Highest Paid Hip-Hop Acts, earning an estimated £17 million.
But it is his wife who has now overtaken him as the main breadwinner. She earned a staggering £35 million last year - double her husband's income - and, according to Forbes, 'no one has monetised fame better'. Her vast business portfolio includes fashion, cosmetics and tanning lines, as well as video games - even a book of selfies entitled Selfish, which costs £10.80 on Amazon.
And it is only because of the music mogul's business ventures - he lost £23 million on a failed womenswear collection, according to the founder of the French APC line Jean Touitou - that he has not matched his wife's income.
The couple leads a seriously ostentatious lifestyle - there are not many women who were given two engagement rings, one for each hand - West bought toddler North a diamond tiara and they have recently splashed out on a brand new £157,000 Mercedes Maybach.

However, they have also invested widely and have an extensive property portfolio.
They live in a £9 million mansion in Bel-Air, which they spent two years - and £1.57 million - renovating, ripping out the roof, moving the pool, bulldozing terraces and replacing walls with windows.
They also own two houses in Hidden Hills, which once belonged to Lisa Marie Presley, complete with multiple pools and vineyard, which they bought for £15.7 and £2.3 million. They are expected to move into the converted property, near her family, when renovations are complete.
Kardashian has certainly inherited a talent for reinventing herself, like her father Robert, an Armenian-American attorney, who defended his daughter's godfather OJ Simpson during his murder trial.
He started a company called Movie Tunes, where Kim worked for the first eight years of her career. When he died, of esophageal cancer in 2003, at the age of 59, she, older sister Kourtney, younger sister Khloe, and brother Robert, inherited the firm. They later sold the company and the girls invested in two fashion stores.
But, in 2007, after splitting from R&B singer Ray J, an ex of Whitney Houston, she was thrown a curveball when a sex tape of the couple together was released by a porn company.
'She has made $100million (£81m) from her fabulous looks, body and public persona,' said Smith. 'But now she doesn't need to go on doing that because there are other members of the family to promote the Kardashian brand. Pictured: Saint holding her 20-carat diamond ring

However, instead of burying her head, she settled out of court for £3.9 million after suing the porn company, and, taking advantage of her notoriety, her family signed up for the reality TV show, which would make their names. Despite its critical mauling, it is still running after 12 series.
Since then Kardashian has posed for Playboy, insisting 'it's classy', appeared on Dancing with The Stars, the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, starred alongside Carmen Electra in Disaster Movie, rated second-worst film ever on movie website IMDb and been named checked by Eminem in his single We Made You.
So it is unlikely that Kim Kardashian will become a permanent recluse.
