It's been just a few short months since Pippa Middleton got engaged to her partner James Matthews - but it seems that already her exes are determined not to get left behind.

Pippa's former flame Alex Loudon who broke up with her five years ago has got engaged to his long term girlfriend Kristina Vanderheyden.

Kristina shared the news with her Instagram followers earlier this afternoon coyly captioning a photo of them together on holiday with 'My fiancé is a babe'.

The news was met with plenty of well wishes and messages of congratulations from Kristina's friends and followers.

The former England cricketer Alex found fame of another kind for dating the Duchess of Cambridge's younger sister before breaking it off with her in 2011.

The pair dated for three years before Alex split with Pippa after it was reported that he didn't judge her 'marriage material'.

According to a friend of both Alex and Pippa, the private old Etonian could no longer cope with the ‘circus’ that accompanied her wherever she went.

The friend told The Mail on Sunday at the time: ‘The plain truth is Alex adored Pippa but he couldn’t stand the circus that now surrounds her. Nothing is straightforward any more.’

Alex’s father, James, is a successful financier and former High Sheriff of Kent. Chairman of Caledonia Investments in London, he is also deputy chairman of the governors of the University of Greenwich and a trustee of the Canterbury Cathedral Trust.

Alex is said to have dumped Pippa because he didn't consider her to be marriage material

Though likely heartbroken at the time Pippa and her former flame appear to have reconciled over the years.

Just last September the pair were seen enjoying lunch together in Fulham where there appeared to be no hard feelings.

And while for some the news of an ex getting engaged would be distressing Pippa is unlikely to bat an eyelid as she too is looking forward to tying the knot with James Matthews.

The millonaire proposed to his now fiance in July while they were taking a walk in the Lake District.

Less than a year after she began properly dating the handsome hedge fund manager (they were briefly an item in 2012) the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister is now engaged to be married.

Matthews sealed the deal with some serious bling with the engagement ring estimated to have cost £200,000 - which Pippa has been pleased to show off ever since.
