Forget what's on the telly, all eyes are on THAT wallpaper! Own the same designer print that Gogglebox couple Giles and Mary have on the walls of their Wiltshire home

  • The William Morris wallpaper on the couple's walls costs £62 a roll
  • The look is described as 'quite specific', with the fabric and wall coverings intended to be used together
  • Cheaper alternatives available, including a £9 a roll design from B&Q

Gogglebox's other posh couple Giles and Mary (the first being Steph and Dom from Kent) have proved to be TV gold.

But it's not only their deadpan humour that has caught the imagination of the British public as they have also wowed us with their wallpaper.

The green leaf pattern covering the walls of their Wiltshire living room is an appropriately grand William Morris print, costing £62 a roll.

During filming of Gogglebox, Mary sits on an armchair that is covered in a matching fabric.

Sarah Ward, of interior designers Interiors by Sarah Ward, said: 'William Morris prints are iconic.

'Most of the palette tends to be classical English colours, such as autumnal shades of green and browns, broken up with a pale stone in this case.

'The look is quite specific. The fabric and wall coverings were intended to be used together.'

If the William Morris wallpaper is too much on the expensive side, and you're looking for a similar design, try one of our cheaper alternatives at £14 or £9 a roll. How do they compare?

1. The posh version

William Morris, Willow Boughs, £62 a meter www.johnlewis.co.uk

The William Morris print is a classical design that almost looks hand-painted due to the density of the ink

The William Morris print is a classical design that almost looks hand-painted due to the density of the ink

The classic Willow Boughs print was designed in 1887 and has been a firm favourite ever since among who appreciate his innovative work.

The wallpaper characterizes William Morris' flair for design and composition with sinuous lines and subtle tones.

The colour looks solid and almost hand-painted, with the design appearing to be part of the paper rather than printed on top of it.

There is a heavy density to the ink and the paper feels of substantial quality with its matt appearance.

Overall, it has a classical and traditional feel.

Score: 7/10

2. High street version

Superfresco, Green Boho £14 a roll www.debenhams.co.uk

The Superfresco design is on lower quality paper that has a soft sheen and more of a fabric texture

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the William Morris print, one option to consider is this Superfresco design.

It has a folk-inspired leaf semi-plain design, which uses matching tones.

There is a soft sheen to the paper, which has more of a fabric texture than the other wallpapers reviewed.

At less than a third of the price of the most expensive product reviewed, it could provide an affordable option.

Score: 4/10

3.  The budget version

Arthouse, Eco motif green floral £9 a roll ww.diy.com

The Arthouse wallpaper is a modern take of the classic William Morris print and costs only £9 a roll

This wallpaper from B&Q does the trick if you're seeking a modern leaf design at a cost that's hard to beat.

There is an evident shimmer to the paper, which is the much thinner and less robust than the others, making it harder to hang.

It has clearly been printed, meaning the look is less expensive than those that look as though they have been hand painted.

However, it is a contemporary look and is perhaps closest to what William Morris would design if he was recreating his Willow Boughs print today.

Score: 8/10

TIPS FOR CHOOSING WALLPAPER

Wallpapers come is various role widths and pattern repeats. Every time a new width of paper is required, it will need to be matched to the strip before it, therefore you need to allow an extra repeat. It's always good to buy an extra roll if you can stretch to it for comfort's sake.

Manufacturers usually recommend a specific wallpaper paste - best to go with this.

Be aware that wallpapers are printed in batches - it's in the small print, usually next to the number reference or product description. So if re ordering for whatever reason, you should try to buy from the same batch.
