An elderly teacher attacked by an unruly student because he pulled his headphones out had to be protected by the rest of the class.

The astonishing scene was captured on video and shows the professor struggling to gain the the attention of the aggressive pupil.

'I told you to take your headphones out of your ears,' ordered the teacher in Neryungri, a town in north-east Russia.

But his student ignored him, prompting the professor to tug the device away.

'You are a b******' he reportedly shouted going berserk, before he lunged towards the teacher and lined up to strike a punch.

But the rest of the class rushed in to protect the man, and then punished their fellow pupil for showing a lack of respect.

One of them shouts in Russian: 'He needs to know that he needs to get right away from here.'
