Donald Trump may have given the strongest hint yet he will attack Hillary Clinton's personal life in Sunday's debate, by promoting comments from a woman who accused Bill Clinton of rape.

The embattled Republican nominee, who has previously threatened to use the former president's infidelities in his battle Clinton, retweeted two posts from Juanita Broaddrick on Saturday.

Despite the fact his own campaign has been pushed to the brink by a recording from 2005 in which he brags about groping women without their consent and details how he tried to seduce a married woman, Trump was back on Twitter to share the posts.

The first post from Broaddrick read: 'How many times must it be said? Actions speak louder than words. DT said bad things! HRC threatened me after BC raped me.'

Trump followed the first retweet moments later by sharing a second comment from Broaddrick.

'Hillary calls Trump's remarks "horrific" while she lives with and protects a "Rapist". Her actions are horrific,' it read.

Bill Clinton has long denied Broaddrick's accusations, and Hillary has declined to address them.

Trump bringing them up appears t contradict claims he made on Friday, when the Republican nominee said he would not bring up Bill Clinton's past.

'I want to win this election on my policies for the future, not on Bill Clinton's past,' Trump told told the New York Post.

Trump's tweeting comes after a day that saw more than 50 prominent Republican figures either call for him to drop out of the presidential race, or denounce the comments he made on the recording released by the Washington Post on Friday.

'And when you're a star they let you do it.  You can do anything. Grab them by the p---y. You can do anything.'

He was also heard speaking about how he tried to seduce married woman and Entertainment Tonight co-host Nancy O'Dell.

'I moved on her and I failed. I'll admit it. I did try and f*** her. She was married', Trump says in the recording.
