A 65-year-old grandmother was left unrecognizable - even to her own daughter - after undergoing a dramatic television make-over.

Lisa Wilson, from Oxford, Mississippi, gave stylists on Today a completely free reign when she appeared on the NBC show's Ambush Makeovers, simply saying: 'Just make me gorgeous.'

When the retired school teacher, who has three children and four grandchildren, returned, she was so transformed that her daughter Kelly did not recognize her.

Kelly said appearing on the show was the 'ultimate gift' for her mother and that it was something she had long wanted to do.

'She's 65 and she loves the Today show and this has been on her bucket list for years,' she said.

Before she went in for styling she looked casual in an over-sized sweater and T-shirt with minimal make-up.

Hairdresser Louis Licari said she looked 'gorgeous' and that her new look demonstrated the 'great art of a good hair cut'.

He said: 'You see just how soft and flattering it is and it's just a matter of placement and a slight trim and a little bit of layering around the face...

'If you look at her "before" and her "after", I just turned the color a little smoother, it looks even a little bit more natural, slightly darker at the top, lighter on the bottom.'

He added that it is a look that she can 'easily' maintain herself.

Author Jill Martin, who styled Lisa's clothes, said: 'I love a black suit, I love a white suit, with just a pop of color underneath, just chic and simple looking.
